Rear big wheel, any reason not to go 9" instead of 8"?

I took out a bearing in one of my rear idlers, didn't notice it soon enough, so my wheel is also shot, and the other side bearing is loose as well as the shaft is worn in. So instead of replacing $100 worth of stock parts I'm considering a big wheel kit. Just looks nice, no other reason. I'm looking at trickedtoys wheels, and maybe MMP axle. Anybody use the tricked axle? I only know the MMP one and really like it. But might still consider the tricked one if it has good reviews.

But getting to my main question, is there any reason a guy shouldn't go to a nine inch wheel? I would like to go nine inch, but not sure. Are they any weaker than an 8 inch? Will I run into any problems with clearance in the tunnel when the suspension is collapsed?

Thanks:typing:

I had a 9" MMP wheel kit with the freedom axle on my 05 900 and switched it out with my 08 D8 163" since they had the same size wheels stock. The 9" wheel is just a tad too big to get the track to clear, as there wasn't enough track. I ended up buying an 8", which was still close. Not sure if the 155" would have that problem- just trying to help you to not make the same costly mistake up front.

i had mm9'' wheels on a 06 rmk with the freedom axle. worked great and looked even better, if you ignore the bent tunnel and bumper. it was a 144''

9" wheel will lower rolling resistance (physics) making track spin easier. Never had tunnel clearance issue but never collapse tunnel that far without breaking something.

Ok thanks, any body else put nine inch on a raw 155? Seems like they fit on the regular IQ. I really have no reason of going to a nine inch other than looks. And it might make it roll a bit easier, but main reason would be looks. Any 155 raw chassis owners put on 9"? I'm sure somebody has tried...

I put them on my 08 Dragon 121,but never had the chance to try them.Sold the sled.

Im going to be putting them on my switchback this summer the stock 7.25" just look too small.

9" will lift the track off the upper idler and cause tension issues with the track.

That being said... many on here will chime in and say they have had no issues... Most of them people I respect... not a knock to them.

Also the 2.4 comes very close or rubs on a tail hard landing.

Sick that looks killer. Those are the wheels from on ebay right?

Interesting, hadn't thought of that. I did F Bombs track mod, so I'm a bit shorter. But I see the track is still rubbing on the tunnel. Even when tensioned just a tad under Polaris specs. So big wheel won't help with that I take it. Am planning on a CE with Holz drop and roll next year, would lose some clearance in the back then I guess with the extra half inch of lug. I have stock rear suspension right now, and bottom over anything, but am hoping to put in some stiffer springs to eliminate that. So would you just recommend staying with an 8 inch wheel?

I have ran 9" wheels on my artic cat in the past with no problems at all. I now have an 08 D8 155" and was looking to do the 9" this summer.
I saw the felker sleds at the silverton drag races and they were using a 10 or 11 inch wheel on all of thier sleds. Who makes the wheels and more importantly who makes the axel kits? These were on xp's but you can big wheel anything ( in theory).
SOmebody must know about these extra large wheels

Tricked toys makes 10" and 11" wheels. They might fit on those sleds, but how much suspension travel do those guys have? Probably not much.

I ended up going with stock parts for now, and instead ordered a set of USI's
