Polaris you should be embarrassed by this.

Are you checking clutch alignment at the factory?

If so, are you using the right tool?

Every brand new Polaris I have checked since 2011 has been between 0.120” and 0.125” off.

This has been out of hand since the Pro Chassis debuted.

Dave, what tool are you using?

If thats with the polaris bar which still accounts for way too much lead in. Try them with TRS bar! lol. Aligning to tonys specs and then watching belt wear to ensure alignment. After doing that I can say that I have found .120" to be the closest ones, some sneak up to around .140" to .160"

I am new to Polaris, 35 years of Doo. Just got a 18 Axys. What alignment bar should I be looking to get for mine? If I could find in Canada would be even better

I had the polaris bar too and went to another brand and have had much better luck. I believe my current one came from Indy dan but will be using the TRS soon and will compare the 3.
nice digital scribes super accurate tool for measuring lol ?

Hey Nick, I am using the OEM Polaris Axys 800 clutch alignment tool in that pic. I have all 3 Polaris Tools. I posted that pic with the OE Tool for a reason. Calling out Polaris for misaligned clutch on a brand new sled using their tool. Using an aftermarket tool in their world would get zero attention.

If they’re not going to properly align their clutches before the sleds leave the factory and expect us to do it, then they should at the very least include the proper shims with the sled. Zip tie them to the bars FFS.

I have verified alignment with straight edges and the lead in you speak of and have found a way to adjust accordingly using the OE Tool.

Same here.
I admit i havent read into this “issue” but i rode my 18’ sks 155 hard all winter with not one issue.
Break in consisted of a 1.5mile ride to get fuel after i got it home from the dealer. Then 300 hard mountain miles. All i did was swap to mountain weights.
Any Doo person can relate that this IS NOT possible on a Doo. They need a lot of clutch tuning and testing to get them right.
Im more than happy and impressed with my stock clutching. Ive have no issues with belt wear

I seem to remember reading the Poo belts handle misalignment better than Gates (and maybe others). If so, either they figure it's better to build a belt to handle their sloppy assembly, or they want to ensure anyone who dares run an aftermarket belt has a bad experience, or both. I think the best advice I've got off SW is to meticulously align your clutch, and run Gates belts. Not that there's anything wrong with Poo belts, but Gates works great and costs less.

I think you need to work on your decimals; 0.012-0.0125” sure doesn’t seem like much...

Perfection is not for everyone. They have tolerance's which are only guidelines. If it was perfect, there wouldn't be any failures. No parts or sleds purchased. The dealer should be checking and aligning the clutches during the pdi.

. That would be a good thing... Most PDI's consist of raising the handle bars and putting the ski's on.
I doubt that most dealers know how to align-or care to ..... Keeps some of us in business LOL!!

Granted I only had 1,050 miles on my 17 AXYS when I sold it, but my R's were dialed in and no abnormal belt wear on my stock clutching; sled ran strong.

Randy I completely disagree. Dealers should not have to be aligning clutches during PDI. This should be done properly by PI before the sled ever leaves the factory. Expecting the dealer to do this at PDI would be the equivalent of GM, Ford, and Chrysler doing front end alignments during PDI on our $80k trucks. Not to mention, the dealer shouldn’t be buying parts (shims) to put the sled into Polaris specs.

And I haven’t even went down the excessive belt to sheave clearance issue every Polaris mountain sled seems to have since 2011. Should dealers be expected to reshim spiders on every sled also?

Polaris sells a clutch alignment tool for the Axys 800 and a different tool for the 850. They list a spec in the manual so it must mean something.

The “perfection” part of clutch alignment in the Axys is what Nick is discussing with the TRS bar that gets rid of the lead in.

Sorry but specs are not guidelines. Here’s a brand new sled with 76 miles. Maybe someone other than myself can comment on both sides of this belt?

Dave, I'm surprised that with those "witness" marks on that belt , that it has not flipped over under a lot of power. Just my thoughts here ! as they look really high on one side and very low on the other side. If Tony looks? what you think??
