Really bad flood outlook.

Hey Quads, I head some dude on ksl radio today say that "we need hot and dry weather". The "hot" would make flooding horrible would it not?

What is the prime weather conditions to successfully get the snow out of the mountains and into the salt lake and Lake Powell with out destroying the flood plain inhabitants?

Thanks for all the ridiculous mud slide links!!!

I will build my house upon the rock, and not near a river either!

Ridiculous?? Just educating you on the pervasive landslide history in northern Utah that you said you can't imagine being true because of the rock quarries in North SLC.

Average temps and dry as a bone weather

What he said!!

Wow. Great links and I don't think Harry was being a smart azz, more like grateful. You have me a little worried now and I'm going to start reading that information you posted on here Quads. How many people do their research on their land that they buy before they build??? We didn't and I'm sure we should have, but now it's a risk we have to deal with. :face-icon-small-sad I guess that water feature I've always wanted in the yard will come and go and hopefully not being a total destruction. :face-icon-small-dis

Harry, was that you that made that comment on Saturday about someone's house falling off the mountain? After reading this I think it was. Yikes!!!

Here's a few pictures.. Lot's of snow to melt and this cabin is only around 7,000 Keep in mind my dad likes to shovel so the piles could me spread out more evenly. :face-icon-small-dis He's part gopher. lol

i for one live in a flood plane. However im not too concerned that this spring will be a 1 in a 1000 year flood. I will be adding flood insurance to my home though.
and i hope it keeps snowing and stays cold. I need all the riding i can to make it through the hot crappy summer!

Better buy a houseboat...
I grew up in southwest MN, where we had a bad flood in 97'. Whole downtown was flooded and anything close to the Minnesota river. Never had problems in the Brainerd area, sandy soil.
The Red River always to go up and flood every spring, in fact I don't think they have spring there..I think it's Sandbag Season. It doesn't look too good for this year either...

No room underneath that bridge anymore..

Good parking..for a submarine.

So hopefully people take precautionary measures if they say it's gonna be real bad like 83. Better to be safe than sorry. :)

GP is right about my comment. The problem with not speaking face to face is that real emotions are not conveyed.

I grew up at the bottom of the very north pit, and from a young age expected houses to be pulled down the hill.

Thanks for posting all that stuff though quads. It's interesting to see how many land slides there are.

No one can beat gravity ;)

Holy snow batman!!!!!

Hope you guys all stay dry when it does melt.

hopefully there isn't too much damage but lots of good pics of the water.

hummmm

Sure would have hated being the first guy around the corner after this happened. Just around the corner from our home. We're sure glad we have two ways off the mtn. :)

It is stuff like that, that scares me because how much is being under cut with a covering. Yikes

Brace yourselves, Its about to hit the fan by mid week next week (highs in the 70's lows in the 40's at 10k) those along the Logan, Weber, upper Provo, cottonwood creeks are gonna get it big time....good news is the worst will be past us by the first of July.

The office view I had of my parking lot this morning.:face-icon-small-sho
We're 30' from the Jordan River.
Waders are in the truck at all times.:face-icon-small-win

Should the waders be in the truck or with you? It would suck to leave work and need the waders that are in your truck to get to your truck....

haha. I figure I'll wear them in and wear them back out as needed.
Actually we have a drain gate that hooks to the Jordan River and when the river rises we shut it and when it drops we open. Figure they will come in handy on those waist deep days the gate needs to be opened.:face-icon-small-win

Unless the river is higher than your gate? Then it kind of works like a backed up sewer eh?
