Ready to try deep powder ridng again !!

I ride out east in the tug hill area of New York. Huge trail system .High speed bump riding is what rules .And I can hold my own with the boys .

Last time I rode Montana I was ripping down the trail and headed off trail .Well I had no control of the sled .I was running over little trees and just keep on the gas trying to get back on the trail.I hit one hard and hurt my leg when I flew over the handle bars. I'm not doing that again no way ..

My husband Mr XRS took the advise of someone here on snowest to buy "SCHOOLED" . He did.We watched it twice last night . I was doing everything wrong .And wrong is what are supposed to do opposed to trail ridning ..Wrong foot on floorboard , steer the wrong way you want to go .step foward on floor boards going down hill. Steer downhill to stop you from rolling down the hill.

I was like a little girl giggling jumping from side to side praticing my new deep powder moves on my sled.:bounce:I can't wait to get back out west to head off trail ,on purpose this time.My husband too! We are going to get a lesson and see why you guys are always smiling out there . Really happy we joined snowest ..thanks

This is exactly how I felt at the start of last year! We learn so many incorrect techniques when we learn to ride on the flat lands. I'm a prairie boy, but there is nothing I love more than the mountains in winter. If you are giggling now, wait till you pull off some sweet powder donuts and maybe a figure 8 :)

I usually find a creek bed I know has some powder in it and practice my turns and manuevering, great way to get comfortable before you play the big game.

thanks for the great posts

Hi, I'm debbiedoo's husband and thanks for the kind words. I contacted Amber Holt in Island Park for lessons for both of us. Just have to work out the details and timing .Our first job when we get to West Yellowstone is to make sure the Breast Cancer Sno-run is going smoothly, being the organizers of the event . Hopeful to get a lesson in before the event ..but after the Sno-run we are going off trail. If you come to the snorun please introduce yourself . You can hear our nyc accent right away. LOL here's a website for info www.debbiedoosnorun.com should be great fun ..

Amber is awesome. If you can ride her turbo sled you won't go back. Bring your own shovel. Good luck.

x2 about Amber Holt. I took a clinic from her last year and really learned a lot and truly enjoyed it. She is a great instructor and will give you just the right amount of constructive criticism along with encouragement to keep things fun. She moves along at your pace and will work with you until you feel confident about moving on to the next technique.

However be ready for a workout. You will be whipped at the end of the day. Was already planning on taking another clinic before the first one was over and that says a lot.
