Re-gear my 2006 RMK (755)?

What is the stock gearing?

I was told that 19/42 is a good gearing for this sled. Do you guys agree?

Where to buy, and can i still use my stock chain?

Do i have to change both gears? Or just one?

Thanks! Btw. its snowing outside! :)

Found it in the polaris part catalouge. 20/41 is stock gearing. Right?

Can i change only one sprocket (gear) insted of both?

18/41 or 20/43 ? (Instead of 19/42)

Or what gearing should i run on this sled? I mostly do boondocking and some climbing, also a lot of trail riding.

Thanks again!

If you go two teeth smaller on top, it will put alot of bend in your chain. It would be better to go one smaller and other one bigger to keep the chain straighter. With the 19/42, you should be able to run the same chain. You can order these from your poo dealer. You can buy better gears, but they will cost more (HPE).

What about 20/43? Will that cause the same effect?

I dont know if 43 tooth sprokets exists, or if it will fit in the chaincase?
Just want to hear your opinions on this.

And i dont want to buy 2 sprockets, if i can change only one, and save money on it. But of course, it has to be a reliable gearing.

Going two teeth more on the bottom will not have as much effect as one less on the top. Yes you can get a 43T, and I think it will fit the case. I'm not sure your chain would work with a 20/43 setup. I would just buy two standard RMK gears from your dealer 19/42. You don't have to get the expensive lightweight or specialty gears. The standards are not that costly.

I'll talk to my dealer and check what the cost is for that gearing. Anyone who has done this re-gear? Can i expect a big difference?

I have made a chain length calculator in excel to figure out chain length for gear combination's.

you input your center distance of your chaincase, top and bottom gear teeth and it will give you the ratio and length of chain. here is a screen shot of it. chain length calculator download

I only changed to 19/41 - used my stock chain and yeah I did notice alittle difference - I did a few other mods at the same time though but I think that re-gearing this machine to suit your riding style is probably one of the cheapest and best things you can do.

19/42 gearing is the BEST combo you can do on the 06 700/900..

it will lower your belt heat as well..

Dimebag..do you ride mountain or trails mostly..cause the 19/42 is EXCELLENT in the mountains....

WHATS UP NEWFIE!!

Do a bit trail riding too, but i need the power in the mountains. The trails are just for getting there. Talked to my dealer yesterday, and the gears was EXPENSIVE. 360 dollars for 2 gears. It sholdnt be possible. Someone is making some serious money in this industry.

Anyone of you willing to buy a set in the US for me? :D

I just bought 19/42 gears from Western Power Sports through my Polaris dealer 2 weeks ago for less than $100. Go shopping on-line if your local dealer doesn't want to support you, I'm sure lots a dealers on here will help you out if needed.

Uh, too late .. damn

Done some searching around the web, but i really cant find anywhere to buy new gears. Its a bit worse since i live overseas also. Gears must be the one thing i havent found on eBay..

why is it too late..did you already buy them from your dealer?

i dont see you being overseas as an issue..as long as your willing to pay for the shipping..who cares where you are IMO..

there will be some gears on ebay this winter, but they are slim..you have better luck posting a WTB add in the swapmeet..thats where i just scored a 42t a few weeks ago..and the thread i gave you to!

Hey Guido - everyone healed yet????
Did ya get fired yet??

Hey Dimebag where do you live? I know I bought mine off my dealer when I changed mine and I don't think I paid much (i can't remember so it couldn't have been much) those prices seem steep. Guido knows what he's talking about so I would go with the 19/42 if he says so!!!

I just looked in my HPE 09 cat. and they have the 19t for 27.95 and the 42t for 52.95. These are good quality gears (Borg Warner). Their web site is www.hiperf.com. Hope this helps

Thanks guys,

guido: Too late to buy from the guy at swapmeet. (Sold) But thanks anyway.

hiperf.com looks good, but what is special about the HYVO gears? Can i still run my stock chain? I see the hyvo gears on denniskirk also, but it tells that i have to run a special chain?

Newfie: I live in Northern Norway. Yeah, everything is expensive over here.

I hear ya Dimebag - Living on an Island on the extreme east coast of Canada has it challenges sometime to. Anything I can do with getting it shipped here and forwarding to ya let me know - no problem.
