RE Front End Smasher

Met up with Billygoat and a few other SW forum members from Minnesota at Rabbit Ears yesterday. We were having a nice day, decent snow and seemingly no rocks. So wrong. Went to hit a wind blown lip by a tree in a meadow and turns out there was a nice unfriendly rock waiting under the snow. Bent the Sh*t out of the lower A arm. Bent the steering rod and broke off the sway bar. Ended up tying the arm together half a** and riding it for s short period. Then too much snow collected in the clutch side and rendered my belt useless. My buddy (DBaker) pulled me for a good distance until we hit a hill and he lost traction. Luckily Billygoat's boosted M8 had the cajones to pull my sled to the top of the hill. After looking at the machine this morning it looks like the bridge on the bottom of the frame that the a arms pivot on is intact and without damage (luckily). So far it seems like all I may have to buy is a new lower arm a steering arm and some shock parts, maybe even an entire new shock. If anyone has any insight where I might be able to find OEM parts cheap I would love the help. I'm also new to snowmobiles so any other advice on how to go about fixing this problem would be appreciated. Just wanted to send a shout out to Billygoat and thank him for all the help yesterday.

Thanks, Garet

This may not seem funny Garet, but watching the M8 RIP your sled out of there was ALMOST worth it!! A turbo makes an awesome tow rig:D I thought I saw you sitting in your truck at the Dumont lot, I was making a loop to see if you guys made it out. Your sled looked "pretty sad" sitting there all tweaked up. Get 'em some new parts and cheer the little fella up;)

That was ugly. How many wind lips did we hit yesterday Ike? I felt a few bumps and bounced off a couple rocks but no damage like that sled had. Glad you were able to get it out.

Someone had to have had a camera.......

A turbo M8 towing a sled uphill..... I can picture the broken sled being masked by 75' roster tail.

The thing is, that M8 throws major roost. And just about the time BillyGoat got it to the top of the hill, he told me to jump on to keep some weight off of the left side. I forgot to put my goggles on and before I knew it I was being pounded in the face by boosted 8 roost. Felt awesome.

We were thinking of heading that way....but guess I'll suffer thru the 200 inches down south :eek:

Sorry bout that...

At least your sled is not as bad as we thought it may have been. Still a bummer though, plus when you think how far away we were. :beer;

We head back to Durango Monday evening. Back to ol Molas Pass where there's more snow than we know what to do with and about four other guys riding. Hmm, sounds good.

Billy, I got everything to fix the sled (Which includes front and rear suspension from TrinityPowder's X model) priced at Just under 600$. Not too bad. Be back out there in no time. Better get some practice in before we ride next so I can keep up. :beer;

Garet

This is getting stranger all the time Garet........Molas is my old stomping grounds! I lived in Farmington for 10 years and learned to ride on top of Molas, Purgatory, Wolf Creek, and Chama! I planning a trip down that way after the next big dump. I still have a couple of buds that ride out of Farmington. Do you ride the track at Aztec? My moto buddy is taking that over. Small world, eh?

I lost count.............but thank God we didn't find what Garet did on that 50 mph step up:eek: That would have HURT:face-icon-small-sad
