Ran Outta Motors??

Anyone heard the same story I did the other day? A buddy of mine just went through his 4th motor on his '07 XRS, he's been getting about 500 miles per motor. Went to the BRP and the story is: no '07 motors or '08 motors avaliable! None, zip, zero, and no idea when they will have any motors in stock. What the heck good is a warranty if they can't fix something! Sherm

I took my 07 in 2 weeks ago to a shop here in Washington because I lost the crank and the shop told me they will put in a complete short block and it will be done this week. I asked them if BRP had them in stock and they said yes.

I assume they are tired of replacing motors for him and are hesitant to keep throwing motors at him.. I don't blame them! it looks very suspiscios that one guys is consuming so many motors! I think that if they already gave him 3 additional motors I think that is damn good warrany!
what does he want? breakfeast made for him each morning by BRP also!!??

Probably not! Does the fine print on your warranty say "Limit three engines". Well it's got to be the riders fault doesn't it. There's nothing wrong with these engines, right?

It sounds highly unlikely to get that many bad motors, but not impossible. What does he want? He probably wants his 4 ruined rides back plus gas to and from his riding area and to the dealer. He probably wants a sled that he can ride w/o worrying about getting back to the trailer at the end of the day. IMO the best warranty is one that I never need to use. If I lost motors like that, I'd start demanding a new sled and get the dealer to pick it up and drop it back off when completed.

He's not doing anything wrong, the last one broke just a couple miles up the trail from the parking lot! Warranty is warranty, for whatever reason they're busting I would hope warranty would still cover it. They are in fact writing a letter to BRP to see what they can do. Hey, it happens! Another friend of mine has just finsihed the 3rd motor on his M1000, they had no problems with warranty. Time to switch brands? Sherm

not saying it's not possible that you can get 4 defunked motors in a row, but highly unlikely. some guys think its perfectly fine to just start it then immidiately start riding with no warm up... basically thats the only thing i can think of that he may be doing that could cause it to die so quick, and perhaps putting regular gas in too.
did they replace the carbs too?? perhaps they were set super lean or something and just kept putting them on?? i dunno just ideas, it's never cool having waste all them trips up to the mountns..

It's called the "law of averages". I'll bet there are several brp customers, that have even gone through more engines. Got nothing to do with anything the owners does or did. Simple math. Got 2 stroke!

Ordered a short block for a 2007 today, Brp said they may be on b/o but will build and send one out in 10 days. When I looked for availability at about 1:30 they had 0 and at 3:00 when I put the order in they had 22 in stock???????????

well i just had the crank brake off at the clutch on my 07 today and I have a trip planed in two weeks so i hope the have some in stock.

It took over two months to get my 07 motor replaced. Just picked it up today. The dealer said all short blocks were recalled because of a problem with the piston wrist pin bearing. They should be available now.

Dude, Does your buddy know you have to put oil in them?

My 07 sled went down on Presidents day this year. I lost the crank bearing. Took it to my dealer that same day. They put a 2008 motor and I was riding Friday the same week.

I know of one fella that has gone through 8 2007 XRS motors - four this year.
I'm sure he'd be riding some thing else if he could, but he uses the XRS's for work. I now it's a bit excessive, but he rides daily and probably puts 3k on per year.

MD.

well my dealer told me today that he ordered a short short block which is just the crank and case and that it would be here by the end of next week so we will see.

OUCH, that's a lotta motors, is the dealer checking for other problems such as timing, carb, oil injection. Seems odd.

Have never seen so many year old, new year sleds for sale in swap meet.
