I built this set of ramps for $130 for all materials. If you have any questions ask. I have tested them a couple of times today with no issues. I will send you photos of all parts if anyone would like.

Put hinges on the first 2 feet of the platform by the cab, that way you can flip it up and push it in the truck so you can close the tailgate.
I can't close my tail gate, sled reaches to end of tail gate when it's down, and I personally prefer to keep it down. The gate can close when the ramps are under and there's no sled in it.
My sled sticks out 4 feet off the ned of my truck, my platform goes right to the end of the tailgate.
I'm not smelling what you're stepping in. I have a 8 foot and inches box, ramps fit fine. The sled does not, if what you mean is lift the sled close the tail gate and set the track on tail gate, I stray away from that, as it blocks my view,
No i mean to close the tail gate with the platform in the truck when not in use.
mine goes right to the end of the tailgate to take the weight off the tail gate. When I'm finished using the platform i just flip up the front and slide it into the truck then close the tailgate.
the ramps I use stay where ever the sled is too.

Understand ths will be a great idea for anyone with a "short box." Mine are 8ft long as well as the ramps,
