RAM 2500 Performance

no stock auto tranny is build to handle more hp than stock

On my 1998.5, I ran an edge comp with the pump wire tapped (120 extra horse at the wheels) for 50,000 miles without problems, and I bought it with 90,000 miles. First 15,000 edge ez (65 horse), wanted more so I got the comp. I have 155,000 miles on it now with no problems, so I guess some people have better luck than others I guess.

thats all it really has on it, is just 2 more gears. IMHO any truck with an auto tranny just isnt meant to pull

Man have you even driven a 6.7? This tranny (68RFE) is a lot different from the 48RE. Internals are a lot beefier and its made to tow. Theres plenty of guys that are happy with theire 68RFEs and they pull fairly heavy loads. I guess the 30 and 40 ton rock trucks I work on for a living aren't meant to haul anything either because their a lowly auto:rolleyes:. Get a clue.

why yes i have, and i was towing a k3500 chevy up a hill and the oh so coveted and beloved 68RFE took a crap. i got a ride back to the house and grabbed ol blue ( 99 3/4 ton 5.9L 6 speed manual ) and towed both of them to the shop.

i know luke will ask why i was driving and heres why. because it was the guy's first diesel, he just got it broke in and was babying it and diddnt want to hurt the truck so he asked if i would tow his other truck to the shop to have some work done to the 454

i always remembered hearing that those 30-40 ton pit trucks were a mechanical over electric system where the engine just turned a big *** generator and that powers electric motors that turn the wheels but hey you might be talking about another type of truck... who knows. and i do have clue its a fun game

why is that? because they get worse milage than a manual? yeah thats alot better for everyday driving i dont know about you but i dont like to waste fuel

cause shifting 6 times through 10 stop lights sucks.fuel mileage is nearly identical.proved that on the same set of injectors on two trucks one with a manual and one auto.

you like it because it doesent require as much work? so you would rather have a truck that over the long run requires alot more fuel and maintenance?

yeah the pump on my ford is turned up a little under 2 flats and i can smoke people out pretty good if i want to but it goes from about 14 mpg to a little over 6

With my map sensor unplugged with the edge comp, it will smoke like that every time I stomp on the gas, and I still get 14 mpg with my dodge

can you not read. same set of injectors on identical setups yeilding the same fuel mileage.did you own a auto identical to your parents to actually see for yourself the real difference?

no i havent owned an auto exactly alike my parents but my dad's old work truck was exactly alike my moms except obviously an auto truck and it got roughly 7/8's what the stick got. it was close but it wasnt as good

Actually... In the new dodges (08 and newer), the auto gets better milage then the manual.

Main reason is it cruses at a lower RP then the manual does. I have one of each, i might know.. :)

Mine is an auto simply cuz they are faster in the 1/4 mile, I love drag racing mustangs and seeing their face when you pull on them everytime they shift.... That and I won't have to put a new clutch in every xxxx pulls or miles.... Lifetime warranty on my converter...

But I don't tow sh!t other than a few thousand lbs in a horse trailer now and then...

And yes shifting in any kind of traffic is a PITA... but if I towed heavy I'd prolly have a 6spd. for the engine braking and easier to control the egt's...

Oh and a stock clutch won't hold any serious power over stock either... to each his own...

I am talking about a different truck. You're thinking of something a lot bigger and from my understanding, a system that sadly Cat is going back to. I'm talking about Volvo A30D,35D and 40D trucks. All they are are a big auto. I've yet to see one fail and they get bagged on pretty hard.

oh ok so you work on those, nice, i can see how a stick would get a little hairy

The reason it screems sometime is you happen to be driving it when its burning the particulates out and the computer boosts the turbo up to make more heat to burn the fuel from the 7th injector. which inturn puts more boost into the intake. All You need is banks veryable speed controller and a bigger charge air cooler and you will have all the boost you want when you want it. the chip will help but with that controller it will give you full boost at take off and you will be able to turn the tire off the truck like a gas jobber and it will give you more boost for torque also just make sure you install a pirometer gauge so you doing melt down any thing if it hits 9 take it to the shop.

Don't spend any money on injectors all the chip will do is hold the injector open long for a split second thus putting more fuel in the cylinder and you still get the same effect.
I work on these trucks wonderfull engines everyday.
