Where can I get a barrel of race gas in Denver / Longmont area? Who has the best price and what are folks running in their sleds?

Can I run 100ll

J

Place out in Severance that sells it. Phillips station I think. Not sure they have drums. Team petroleum in the Fort has drums. try a search in this forum, was a topic on it not long ago.

Me, I'm droppin compression and going back to the cheap drinks for awhile :)

Child.....? More then a can on my mod huh wow. There was a giant topic on running 100LL on hardcoresledder. A few Guys were running it in their factory 600mods and 440's with a high compression head. All the info below was taken from Hardcoresledder Topics.

More seriously, what are you hoping to use 100LL in?? Several of the guys I race with use 100LL in their stock '04-'06 Polaris 440's. That would be the HiComp head, not the trail head. I always used about 105 octane, a mixture of 110 and 90. I always felt I could lean on the motor a little more and get more HP out of 105 octane. Some of the guys I race with had good luck running 100LL but they had to jet at least one size fatter than I did. When we got our '07 440's they seemed to have a little more compression for some reason and noone tried 100LL, we all used a mixture with somewhere around 105 octane to be safe.

AvGas has a different density and burn rate and is designed for Low RPM, relatively Low Compression, air cooled motors that have a Mixture Control on the fuel system. Pilots can lean the Air/Fuel mixture with a knob on the panel to achieve optimum burn rates and fuel economy at altitude. AvGas helps helps prevent a piston meltdown if the pilot decends from altitude and neglects to richen the mixture. And most AvGas available now at local airports is 100LL or Low Lead.

I am not trying to say you can't run AvGas, I am concurring with others here saying without more compression, running fuel with more than 92 Octane will not increase performance, it will more than likely decrease performance.
Hope this helps.

Ok, Yeah Yeah. Running 114 does burn nice, but Exspenive!!!! $8 bucks for TrackTech or what up to $14 for VP Racing??? I burn close to 5 gallons/hour riding my 2006 600 Speedwerx Mod. My brother has a 2005 Mod 800 and I always burn more fuel than even him. So how about $3.64/gallon? Still more money than pump gas, but as far as I can tell the pump gas heads that speedwerx sell are only good for ash trays.......(whole new topic there!!)

Avgas is ridiculousy clean. Anything that goes into a aircraft probably has higher tolerances than your dads pacemaker!!!!
Avgas 100LL (light blue) octane rating is moderately confusing it's rating is 100/130. Why 2 ratings? The 130 is the octane if forced- induction is used i.e. turbo, supercharger where the intake is pressureized. The pressure changes the characteristics of the octane and bumps it 30pts. I think that the High Compression Ratio of a Mod Motor Activates this property??? Just a theory!! I tried getting the 115/145 (PURPLE) AvGas, but unless you own a P-51 Mustang you pretty much cant' get it!! And if you can afford a P-51......STOP reading this!
AvGas is very light, and atomizes very well and the lead is present to deture knocking and pinging at high altitude. It also drys out the top end. So all these properties have to be accounted for (run fatter jets) It atomizes better so there is a greater charge in the cylinder.
So blah blah blah, this is what I did.

On a +18F day
Race Heads
I advanced my timing to 2+ advance
Main Jet 520N
Needle Jet 1st clip ( deepest) this gives you a lean crisp bottom end with that fatty jet. Must run at least 3x too big jet, better to go to big with AvGas and have the top end suffer. Plus Top End is way over rated, Seriously do you really hold WOT for more than a burp anyways????. FYI each throttle position uses different parts of the carb, pilot, needle, main.
BR9ES Plug 0.35 BR9EYA are just too Fancy for me!
32:1 oil mixture, AmsOil Dominater.....or wal-mart SuperTech (last resort) as you can tell by reading this, I don't cry If I fry my motor! 1000cc Twin transplant if it squeaks!!

My brother Shakes his head everytime I fill up, but I still beat his 800 outta the hole. I really haven't noticed a seat of your pants performance loss, deffinately no power gain though. I crack the throttle and it rides a wheelie, really! I've ran 30 gallons of AvGas and my Cylinder Wash, Piston top, and Spark Plugs are something that a EFI would be jealous of.

Hill Petroleum in Arvada carries the whole Sunoco line up.

I get my 260gtx from them each year.
