Race Gas in the 800 Pro RMK???

Our 2013 Pro has one gallon of old 91 octane gasoline in it with some Sea Foam mixed in it, and our 2014 has 5 gallons of premix from the dealer since we picked it up in mid September. My thinking is to put one gallon of race gas in each sled and then top off both sleds with some fresh 91 octane and get ready to ride.
Good idea? Or not.:light:

Why would you use race fuel? It will create more power on the 91. Race fuel doesn't make your sled fast.

No need to get fancy about it, just use marine stabil in the off season and then add fresh 91.

What race gas? Leaded or no lead? With ethanol as the oxygenator/octane booster? 109, 110, 113, C12, C14, they are all different.

Get the old fuel out, fresh non-eth pump 91, toss in some Startron JIC, new fuel filter, will work perfect. Unless you are running higher comp, no need, just leaving hp on the table.

Agreed, that's all I've ever done in my sled/boat/old cars/weekwhacker/gas powered drink blender/etc and it's always been fine. No need to make it complicated.

....adding fresh gas to old fuel DOES NOT make old fuel better, it makes the new gas weak. Old fuel has lost its octane among other things!!!
... is risking your engine worth the effort it takes to remove the old gas????????????

I top up all my sleds with a gallon of race fuel and then back to non-E 91 after the summer.

I guess I must be missing something here. Why, why, why would you even want old fuel in your system? Siphon/drain as much out as you can, get as much fresh fuel in there. I store all my sleds, atv's, lawn equipment, etc with VP SEF 94, run it thru the system, keep minimal amounts in the tank, and then drain all that I can out when I bring them out to use and put in fresh fuel. Hell, when I have had to use non eth, even with Yamaha Fuel Med added, I drain non eth out if it has been sitting over 2 weeks. Sure it costs just a bit extra, not much, but the trade off for the repairing what bad fuel can cause is well worth it in my humble opinion. Maybe I am making this too complicated but it is quite simple and easy to get stored fuel out of your sled, lawn equipment, etc. I learned that hard way with what bad gas can do, never again for me. But hey, whatever works for each one - "certainly more than one way to skin a cat"!

Good advice everyone. I just remember here on SW someone said to add a little race gas in the tank during start up in the fall. I guess my main concern is with the 2014 and the dealer putting summer gas in it. The refineries don't switch over to winter blend until sometime in October around here. 91 octane fuel around here does not have ethanol. I guess I was just thinking adding race gas was just improving the quality (an additive) of the fuel in the tank in the short term. Nothing to do with performance. Knowing me I probably didn't make my question all that clear.
Thanks again!:face-icon-small-ton

Yes that's a good idea. I can tell by your post you are asking the right question and you already know the answer and know that you are looking to be on the safe side to prevent any engine damage.
I give two thumbs up :)

With most all of the sleds these days having det sensors you are far less to ever hurt a motor from poor fuel. It may not run well, but you aren't gonna pop pistons or crack heads like days of old.

That certainly makes a difference! I am so used to having ethanol crammed down our throats that I forget that there is some sanity elsewhere. You should be fine adding non eth 91. Personally, I always drain/siphon any fuel that has been used for storage, which is why I only have a small amount in the tank - just has become a habit. Good luck and ride safe!
