Just wanted to let everyone know that the Forest Service is looking at a public comment period for the expansion of the rabbit ears parking areas sometime in Dec or January. I know it is early but wanted to plant the seed in everyone mind

http://www.fs.fed.us/nepa/project_content.php?project=35313&exp=detail

We have met with the FS and their plans are awfully nice. Need to get comments in to support the plan. We all know there is some room for improvement with the current facilities

Dear FS: I need a bigger parking lot to park this massive trailer I just bought in. Plz build. Thx.

:)

which side is favorable?

More parking...or don't touch the parking.

is there a toll booth in the plan like Vail Pass?

Will they start making you pay to park/sled?

Some of these things can be a slippery slope.

Personally I'd just as soon see the lots stay the same. Expansion means more sledders, which means more law enforcement, which leads to us paying daily fees to be policed. Boy, can't friggin wait. They don't even plow the lot they have worth a crap. I think the Mesa needs developing....go there :D

That link doesn't provide much info? Am I missing something?

I'm with ya on that. My neighbor is the RE CDOT plow man, you wanna grease his palm a little I bet the lot gets plowed sooner and better. From what I have heard, CDOT isn't even required to plow them.

I've heard similar, but if CDOT isn't responsible for clearing it, then who? Not sure I believe that story. The drivers do appreciate it when they get some under the table incentive, but that's for going above the call, not for just doing the minimum. Last year was a heavy snow year and the MC lot was buried deep half the time. Sure not tipping them for that! On the other hand, it's hard to blame them for not getting in there when it's snowing 10' a week.

If they close those lots on the highway for "safety reasons" then get ready for nowhere to park at all during periods of heavy snow. MC lot can pile up for days without seeing a plow, and the only places plowed are the lots along the highway. Also, the highway lots see the snowblower every now and then, MC never gets blown, because jack-holes leave camfire leftovers behind. Log ends do a number on the blower. As a result, the lot closes up to about 1/3 of it's beginning volume by the spring.

Lot's of reasons to be happy with what we have up there and many reasons why change COULD leave us with less than we have now.

The Mesa's gots lots of good clear parking, come on down, we'll take ya! Snocat rides available.

I figured you'd welcome the riders, but if you got the masses wanting to ride RE you might say enough is enough.

Hey I know, instead of everyone getting sent to RE how about we put in huge parking lots in at a whole bunch of other places to spread people out. Oh that's right because everything else worth riding is f'n wilderness now. This state has itself backed into a nice little corner. Hugely growing population and plenty of people wanting to ride motorized vehicles but nowhere to go. So lets expand the parking at RE and stick them all there. F that! How bout we take back our land that's been labled "KEEP OUT TAX PAYING CITIZENS NOT WELCOME"

Anybody got a spare rig with a plow that they could leave at my place? I'd be more than happy to go Thurs night after work and clean it out.

All I have is a Polaris Sportsman with a 36" blade.

Leave the lots alone unless they want to put up a sign that states Colorado Riders ONLY, all others will be towed and vehicles given to the Colorado Riders. HAHA

Love the idea, but once wilderness it will always be wilderness. All the ******* californians who moved there in the 90s wont have it any other way, or else their trips to breckenridge on the weekends might be somehow detremented by exxonmobil drilling oil wells there

That will work just fine as long as the same policy goes into effect at Green Rock for the Wyoming riders :D

POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

Breckenridge isn't even that bad anymore, Most folks are Texans and love to see big trucks, snowmobiles, fourwheelers and most bring big *** jeeps. Alot more snowmobilers in the area and alot of 4x4 clubs fighting for our land. Sure you sometimes see the hippies hugging the "OLD GROWTH" Trees and bitching about the damage we do which isn't possible with 3-5feet of base. But most of those tards are too busy shredding the gnar at the resort to go pro then worry about the backcountry. We have alot of wide open land that you can only get to by riding in, Hiking would take days so you never see anyone back in most parts.

don't change the lot . the small lot helps keep some of the people out or some of the crowd out just my thinking

parking lot

change/don't change ,don't really care, just don't charge me for it.As far as more people i don't think the masses are going to come out of the wood work just because a parking lot got a update. if you are seeing to many people get out of the lot and off the trail and all of a sudden you will find yourself all alone in a large riding area. my wooden nickels worth:face-icon-small-dis

Apparently that doesn't jive with CSA's plan to roll over on their backs and jam us all into the few existing DECENT riding areas left. THANKS CSA, can I get a refund on my F'n dues?? We need some leadership that has the ballz to just say NO! Lets quit fighting for how quick we lose our chit and start fighting to get some of it back!

Put a big azz lot in on the east side of Cameron Pass for chripes sake. tens of thousands of acres north of 14, east of laramie river road and all the way to Wyoming that could use some development for winter recreation? WTF is wrong with that area? I'll tell ya. Parking for 3 rigs is F'n what! Put in a lot and keep it plowed and spread the use out. It's no RE for snow, but it's mostly above 10k feet and offers some good, but if there were anywhere to park! I ride up there now and then and it's a shame it's not more easily accessible. Put in a lot and they will come!

After that CSA should go after that big beautiful stinking useless wilderness area to the west! (sorry, I'm joking of course). Oh, I be the Rawah Wilderness sees all of 8 users on twigs per winter. That's a helluva way to use our public lands. Let it sit and do nothing. I'm not saying drill for F'n oil, or strip mine it, but this philosphy of, basically, no use at all, has got to go. rant rant rant.

With ya on that Bushy. Lets see, Sarvis Creek Wilderness gets pounded by the twig fairies, the West side of RE doesn't. Those bastages use the groomed trails. There isn't a twig fairy man enough to make it to the goods in the Zirkel Wilderness. And the same goes for the Flattops and Elliot's Ridge.
