Rabbit ears area conditions

sick riding!! but 0 base just fyi still worth the trip tho! might be cold check the weather report for stbt

Just rode there yesterday. Still some great powder to be had. Getting pretty tracked up so will need to look good.

looking to put together trip asap due to the new conditions, but we have never been to steamboat area before. some i know that go there have stayed in waldon and trailer to where ever. some say that hahns peak is a good place but i'm sure its not a short notice place due to current conditions i'm sure its booked. also where is a good parking lot or such to unload at in rapid ears or buffalo pass? like i said never been there before so any info will help! thanks in advance.

Grizzy Creek about 20 miles SW of Walden is trailhead for Buffalo Pass. Parking for Rabbit Ears is right on the Hwy near the pass, you can't miss it.

We stayed at La Quinta in steamboat. Parking wasn't ideal but there was room for us. Rate was about $110/ night. If you are wanting to stay in SB, there are plenty of places you can stay for about that price.

I can only speak for Rabbit Ears riding area. You can stay in Kremmling or Steamboat, Rabbit Ears is in the middle of both towns. Kremmling is small town with the most popular lodging at the Allington Inn (they offer a discount if you mention you are snowmobiling). A few restaurants and small town bars for night life. Arctic Cat dealer (Alpine Motorsports) next to the Allington.

On the other side of the pass you have Steamboat Springs. I prefer here. It is somewhat of a wealthy ski town, but there are many options and things to do. Best deal in town is the Steamboat Hotel, they advertise rooms for $79/night. There are plenty of places to stay if they are booked. You may have to pay more, but I'm confident you will find a place to stay. Big downtown with plenty to do. Hot springs to relax at night. Ski Doo and Polaris dealer in town with plenty of gear and parts available. I think the drive to the riding area is faster from here.

40 is the main drag for Rabbit Ears Pass. Both Kremmling and Steamboat are on 40. There are 2 parking areas, Dumont and Muddy Creek. They are less than a mile apart on top of the pass, right on 40. Can't miss either of them. Trails head both north and south of the highway. Hope this helps and have fun!!!

Question. If you stay in Waldon can you get to grand lake riding area on the west side. Never been to rabbit ears or grand lake before. Thinking about a trip down there soon. Curious if stay at Waldon if u can ride rabbit ears and grand lake from their. Trailer up the Mt of course.

Yes from Walden you can trailer to either area. To trailer to the town of grand lake would be a bit of a drive. You could trailer to gould and ride over to grand lake but it is a long ride to get there and back.

So if you stay in Waldon you go east on 14 and hit Gould riding area. So grand lake riding area is east of grand lake. Is this right. Never been down there in my life. Just looking at Google maps. If you go west out of Waldon you hit rabbit eats, right.

From Walden,
take 14 south/west to Gould, there is a trail system that starts there, and some good backcountry.
take 14 south/east to get to the Grizzly parking area to access Buff Pass from the west side, or drive another 20 minutes or so, and head north on 40 toward Steamboat, to get to Rabbit Ears.
take hwy 125 south out of Walden to head to Grand Lake,
which usually takes over an hour....when you drop down from the pass, you head west on 40, and then on 34 just before Granby, to get to G.L. sometimes there is good snow in Willow Creek Pass on the way to Grand Lake.
