Anyone ever have trouble with there phone not working with Qwest it's fuzzy all the time cutting in and out or flat out not working??? There DSL is the same way.

Just curious

We did here. As the housing developement over-ran our end of town they updated the phone lines. When dial up was used here back 5 or 6 years ago, they explained our phone lines were old, the reason for static. Perfect now

Ya that sucks I bet our lines our messed up and over-ran been this way for a year but getting real bad now. You would think they would be obligated to update the lines

Working for a phone company and dealing with Verizon and Qwest all the time along with the customers. Sounds like you have a line with recurring issues. As a customer you need to keep on them, they will just fix it (usually just a band-aid) and move on, but if you take notes and keep on them you'll get your issue fixed. Some hints, keep track if it happens on mornings that are heavy in dew, days where things are likely thawing out, hot days, windy days and so on. Also when you call to report your trouble request they contact you with the resolution, and keep track of what they say was the issue cause it may help down the road. Good luck, if you have more questions I'm more than happy to try and help.

Slow the line down. I was about 3.2mi from the CO at my apartment.... tried to get their 1mbit/512kbit service, no go... too much noise on the loop. Knocked it down to 640k/256k and it worked a lot better.

Then they installed a T1 remote, and all was good.

Then the crackheads moved in below me, and I moved. Now up to 1.5M/1M. I'm happy with it.

Best part about qwest is they don't care what you do with the line. You pay them for x-amount of bandwidth, it's yours to do with what you want. None of this "Yeah, you can't run servers or bittorrent on the cable you pay for" like you get with comcast.

The other problem comes from Qwest not embracing newer technologies and the same with Verizon. I currently deploy ADSL2+ across Verizon's lines (a wholesale basis thanks to rule changes made by the FCC and UTC), on most lines that Verizon says top out at 1.5/512 I can push 3/768 and its stable. I'm out at the limits of DSL at 16k ft and I still push 3mb to my location...... and Mule, just keep hoping Qwest stays with the non-monitored bandwith policy cause they are one of the few that don't charge.

The static your hearing may be your DSL modem if your phones aren’t filtered properly. The jack your DSL is plugged into should not be filtered and all the phones should be. Also if you have satellite TV make sure that the receiver that’s plugged into a phone jack is filtered. The best way to filter your phones is to install one filter in the box on the side of your house. The more filters you have the more your DSL circuit will be attenuated which will slow your download and upload speeds. If you hear static on the phone, kill the power to your modem and see if it goes’s away. If it does your phone is not filtered properly. This will also kill the sync to your modem every time you go off hook on that phone.
If it all seems ok, keep calling them until they fix it.

you guys ever find when filtering a house some brands seem to work better in certain applications? typically a suttle or excelsus filter that comes with the modem is fine. however, once in a while we have to use a Bourns filter that is designed to mount in the protector to get rid of the noise. could this be a sign of a bad modem or just something that happens?

SnowJW,

TrikeRider is right you got a Filtering issue... ahve them install a filer at the NID (Network Interface Device) and it will filter your whole house...

The other guy had a line conditioning issue, that is what caused the issues with the speed... They could clean up the line, and remove bridgetaps etc. etc.

We are providing customers 3 meg at 18k ft. and 6 meg at 12k ft. and 10 meg out to 8-10k ft. And our Fiber to the Home customers get 15 meg!!! :)

These guys are right, I had just bypassed the filter issue figuring from the sound you were this far into your issue you had been read that riot before. Mtdream, pushing those speeds those distances you must have some great copper in the ground. We get lucky now and then and get a good loop from the LEC here but not often. And trikerider is correct, the best filter install method is at the Dmarc/NID. From the sounds of it theres a few on here that can help so keep this updated for us :D

Yeah on the phone with india for 15 hours, get me an RMA label and sent their crap back to them.

I have a friend that is a lineman for them and he will be the first to tell you and I quote "they are a bunch of retarded monkeys"

almost all remotes are Fiber fed, and hardly any 26 gauge cable in our plant...We spend roughly 3 times the amount in one market that Qwest spends for the whole state of Montana for 5 years...So, yeah, we have some great stuff...

every new development in the Flathead Valley is built with Fiber to the Home :)

Wow thats pretty amazing, you work for a CLEC? We do FTTH, what do you guys use for customer ONT's? We currently do a triple play through an Alcatel box.

Their customer support is terrible. They got my name wrong and it took them about 6 months and 2 "we're sorry so here's $50 bucks"'s to get them to get it right. They're the retarded monkeys. The techs know their stuff though, and they'll do what they can to help you.
