Was my turn to break trail and I guess I let it get too hot.

Stopped dead when it stripped landing a small jump. Fu(ked my wrist! Hopefully not broken.
It took 1/2 hour to scrape the melted belt out of the cogs.
Luckily had a spare Qd belt with me.

WOW! What a mess.

Was this the '13 belt? How many miles on it?

How long were you pushing it hard?

Mine actually seems to run a little cooler in the pow than coming in on the trail (conservatively).

Guess I should be carrying my spare....

Best pics of overheat I've seen KC. How many km's did it take to get there? Do you have a SLP pipe -can? Was it a `14 belt?

No belt drive will take melting temps very long. That is the weakness in the system. Theoretically lowering the gearing should allow less work transferred so less heat maybe. If,,, that is the reason for the heat.

Hope you don`t have a broken wrist. That would be a bummer at this time of year.

It "was" my original 2013 belt with approx 1400 miles.
Under 5kms of breaking trail up a moderate grade road with 1 1/2'of fresh heavier snow. It was probably warm before I started breaking trail. 3 gal of fuel on the back + burandt bag.
I had some speed going so I figured I was getting good airflow....... But I figured wrong.
I'm wondering now how many times I could have been close to this happening in the past.

Well they say they are to be changed every 2000 miles, thats damn good for a 13 belt. 14 belt should last even longer if they really do take the heat better.

Saturday I was breaking trail in some of the wettest heaviest snow I have ever seen, it took at least 3/4 throttle and it would never totally plane out. Between 2-3 feet of fresh that was being rained on. I stopped two times in the 5 mile uphill trail for a few minutes to cool down. Yesterday I inspected the belt close and it looked as good as new. This is on a stock 2014 with 200 miles. I will say in tough snow conditions this pro chassis down right works.

I don't doubt the '14 belt is better. But with a turbo I went with the TKI belt. Funny how I feel much better with it on!

Does the hole right below the bottom sprocket cause any problems with getting getting the belt wet? While installing the float plate on my wife 's snochecked '14 800 Pro Rmk 155, i noticed it. Probably the drain hole for chaincase, so i plugged it just in case. What do you think?

I personally wouldn't plug that hole at the bottom, Snow could only keep it cooler I would only worry about a foreign object. That said I will risk it for the cooling any day.

I can't imagine water would hurt the belt.

I would like to see how many aftermarket belts would be breaking if they sold as many as polaris? Sure they sound good but have they sold 15-20 thousand of them? Just hit 800 miles on my 14 and it flat out rips.

Many of those who change had problems with stock belts last year but since they changed to Tki or C3 the problem with stripped cogs dissapeared, explain that?
