Questions for people in the Know

I finally sold the M800, I had to give it away. That was crappy lesson.

My first question is#1 How many of you have ever tried the motorcycle thing with the track and ski conversion. How does it compare to the snow hawk?

#2 I like to go to the mountains at least twice a year. But I live in minnesota and have 46 acres with a couple of motocross tracks built on it. what snow hawk would work the best. Can they take a beating over and over?

#3 Those who have tried the motorcycle conversion, Can you jump it and will it take a beating?

#4 What kind of issues can I expect with a 1 or 2 year old Hawk, 600 or 800.

#5 How hard is to get parts? What kind of parts should you stock up on?

#6 I rode a 503 in the mountains with a 136. Would a 144 be any better, or is the 136 plenty?

Thaks for all your help guys. I figure its better to get info from the guys who have had them for a while.

The video,

is a sarcastic stab towards those who are only kicking the ski, and waiting for what?

The day is coming only the $$well to do$$ will have the pleasure of this machine!

Have you not gotten the general message from the loyalists on here whether they will be purchasing a Twoski again?

You may call the # any time VVVVVV.:)

ADJ,

Save some of the $ from the sale of your sled and buy yourself one of those 503's out there that only got ridden from the showroom to the H2T. If you read the threads on this forum you'll find that a 136 on a 503 is all you need. Get a gen2 simmons, pull a couple of disks out of the primary, adjust the secondary and go riding. Soon all your riding buddies will see the light.

2 moto

noticed you hadn't received a real answer to your question....
I have ridden the snobike a couple of times (a local company) they are a load of fun. Snobikes are way different than a hawk in handling, you steer more with the bars and some weight transfer. The most notable is how VERY nimble they are...the weight difference is probably 150# less than a Hawk. they have limitations just like the hawk does, mostly in deeper powder. Put the snobike in 3rd or 4th gear and go all day. To me they do not feel as stable as the hawk at higher speeds. If I had to make a choice of the snow bike vs. a 503 fanner hawk I would take the snobike....but the snobike vs. the 600 hawk it would be the hawk...way more power and stability. I can't speak for the reliability of the snobike, but it does jump very well.

All I know

Here ya go. You, like myself are from Mn I recently sold my M-7 except I did'nt take it in the short's. Sorry you did, that has to hurt the wallet. I can't answer any snobike ?'s The video's of snobike's scare's me. The biggest thing is there is no attack angle on the track. Imagin hitting a stump or log. something has got to give. As far as the hawk I bought a 600 why, Because I used to be a big snowmobilier like everyone else who had to have a big sled 7,8,900. But I just rode with a guy Blazin Jason who can ride a 503 really good left me behind, all right he has owned his bike longer than me. But that's not it, the 503 get's up and goes like a 600. I was really surprized what the 500 could do. Part's ?'s have'nt needed part's yet but if you have any this it the place to go. More experince here than at ADBwebsit. Plus there are many dealer's that are here just ask they will plug themselve's which is great. I got hooked up with a good dealer and alot of support through the "Hawk Flock". Go through one of the dealer's. Once you talk to a dealer about your hawk your in a new family. Like I said with plenty of support. Handling. Just watch all the video you can handle to watch. I bought my hawk after rideing it 100 yard's. They are a blast. This is'nt a "toy" for around the yard or field. This Is the "TOY" that replaced my sled. MOUNTAIN"S not sure. I will be taken it out west next year I also make 2 trip's out west a year. I did ride some endless powder in the UP a couple week's ago and they handle better than you ever imagined effortless turn's. Hopefully Jason from Lamoines can post a video of this, We had a cossfire out there he did a hill climb really skeetchy, pretty steep with a nice size log in the middle of this chute and dog leg right, The sled got stuck 3/4 of the way up. Another hawk flew up the chute passed the sled and Duwayne walked down to help get the sled unstuck it was awsome. Any thought's in my mind if hawk can't make it out west is all but gone. Any way that's enough for now. Later Tom:)

Imagine,

where the machine would be without the internet/forums?

My first 503F would be wasted, and I'd still be at the water district.

I loved my sled. That was until i road a demo 600 Hawk and caught the sickness. I would not trade my hawk for ANY other type of snow toy. I live and ride in Alaska from the flat land to the MONSTER Mountains there is a learning curve for the Hawk but almost every body i ride with has plans to dump the two ski's and buy there own Hawk. Some of my group took a couple of years of getting there A$$ handed to them before they saw the light. Theres two of us that currently ride 600 Ho's together but have three other 600's and one 503 that we hook up with on occasion. I would recommend going for a demo ride or rent one for the day if possible The hawk is not for every one but for those who own them and RIDE them there is no other machine to ever buy. Remember this is only my opinion and opinions are like A$$ holes every body got one.

I will try to answer your questions.. I am an avid trail rider in the summer, I ride a KTM 450exc. IO have had the Hawk since the beginning of this season. Bought it with out riding one. I knew it would be good. Here are a couple threads i posted.

Ok to your questions.

1) I have never ridden a conversion, its not even an option for me because they are not trail legal. I ride trail to get to the back country stuff. I have many friends that have trails access. The conversion I could use in my yard and trailer it to backcountry. Lets burns some gas to go burn some gas..:)

2) In VT we have had a rare year of big powder, the hawk is amazing in powder!

This thread shows what I could do in about 12 inches of snow on top of some rain packed snow. The more the pwder the better on this thing..

As for Abuse, it can take it for sure. If I dropped my KTM like have the hawk I would bend a bar or brake a lever maybe crack a case cover, dent a muffler, yadda yadda yadda.. Im sure you know. Well the hawk all that stuff in in the body. I have yet to replace anything that was broken from riding or falling. This thread show what I wrote after beating the snot out of it on a very bumpy 80 mile trail day.

http://www.snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60082

On a track the Hawk would be sick. People still do Snocrosses on them
Suspensions are being discussed in great lengths on other threads the year matters with the rear setup.

3) I'm sure you can jump it but remember that thing hanging off the back is not a wheel, might not want to short a double.

4) My hawk was a well used 2004 the skids were worn out. I have had no issues with the machine except for the intake boots and reeds were cracked. I put in V-force.

5) I live a couple hours south of A.D. and have not had a hard time getting parts.. I bought all the upgrades for the older machine. ski parts and rear pad.

6) Track size not a problem for anything I do. I believe I have the shortest track.

Neighbors

I did not know you were from MN. If you want to go out west please let me know. We want to get a big group of hawk together in cooke or something. I have been riding the 800 144 and josh is on a 600 136. We are thinking about putting a 144 on the 6 for next year/. I love the easier manuverability of the six but the 800 power is nice in the steep and deep. I have never ridden the conversion either but the condensation that builds up on the engine is a problem to me. Also the oil should be changed every ride. Sounds ok for some situations but not true snowmobiling. As far as parts I have been stocking most of the stuff that I think will be needed so I can help anyone with parts. We did do rental before so if that is something you want give me a call but would rather just go riding together. Later Les 605-225-6900

Thanks for all the info guys. I have had some time on a 503 in Cooke, Thats why I want one. I could pretty much bury my riding partners on it. My biggest issue is the money thing. The reason I'm interested in the conversion kit is I already have a 450 Honda. I really like to ride in the mountains in the deep and steep, Thats my only concern with the conversion kit. I just lost $2300.00 on a M800 in 2 months and put 400 miles on it. I'm not in a big hurry to do that again. LOL My other concern with the Hawk was the small gas carrying capacity. Not that a bike has any more capacity. Thats why I would steer more towards a 800 or 600 as they have a bigger gas tank. Thanks for all your help guys. I'm already feeling like one of the family.

Larger fuel tank

My 8.5 gallon tank is working out very nice on my 03 503, although i will admit that you cant fill it up completly due to traped air bubbles towards the rear of the tank. The nice thing is with my jetting and the way i ride i can get a full day of cruising out of a tank of gas although most of my riding is below 4,000 feet. Im sure my fuel economy will disapear after i do some porting and head work this summer due to the poor job they do matching the cyl's on that motor. Just my two cents however, hope it helped.

Take care all
Todd

The conversion machine do not have any body planing surfaces when the snow is to deep for the a ski. The RPM's to keep it afloat would beat on your 450 up good. If manual wet clutches, gear boxes were good for snow machines they would have them. Yamaha went to four stroke power plants but were smart enough to keep the traditional snowmobile drive train.

I bet the 2 moto would be a blast on the trails though, its ashame they are not considered a snowmobile. I would have considered one if they were, most the time in VT they would be sufficient for the snow we get.

There something about a 600 cc two stroke to make you forget about your 450 4 stroke, it make me feel like I am dong something dirty and wrong riding it! LOL

As for fuel , I take a 1 gallon oil bottle or a clean anti freeze bottle and fill with fuel and stick it in my back pack . 75 miles quite easily . I ride from 6 to 10k feet and ride aggressive . If you want to ride the steep and deep ,I think the 2 moto kit would make you wanting alot more .

Get a nasty 800 hawk

Don't get tricked by all this confusion about what to buy. Get a 800cc 136 trak and pull huge wheelies spray huge walls off roost out of your motocross burms, and go big all day on the jumps these things are not heavy when youo have 150 horse full throttle, they eat moto bikes up like they are jelly filled donuts, I know what really works because I have spent mass hrs on all the one skiis, and nothing compares to the 800 hawk. Check out the hawk forum, guys have some in ALberta for sale.

track riding

If we get some snow in MN ever again I would love to bring my hawks to your tracks, a 500 & 600. My 500 is a 2002. been beaten and held up good minus a stump whick took a bit of work to get her rolling again. Change jets and pucks in the clutch and your ready for the mountains. I have only gone to the mountains once with the hawks, offtrail the 500 kicks ***, the 600 tends to trench but if you keep moving no problem with that and quite a bit faster. Ditchbanging the hawks - the 500 is unstopable and will keep up with anything except in the straightaways. the 600 is the same but faster in the straightaways.

Words of wisdom.
