Question on tattoos

So I've been kicking around the idea of getting some ink done and I've got a few basic ideas of what I'd like but I'm still unsure of placement, colouration etc etc. Those of you who have tattoos, what would you do different if you were to do it over again? If I do go through with it, I plan on making it meaningful and not something I'll regret down the road.

Thoughts?

ive got 9, and wouldnt change anything. and am still adding to the full sleave. on my left arm. im just running out of ideas, on what i want.

First, get something that you won't mind your grandkids seeing.
and for the love of god, don't get those stupid azzed tribal chit. That is the dumbest stuff on the planet.

Be aware of something when it comes to tats. The black lines get wider with age. If you get a tat with a load of real fine detail, it will blur together over time. It is better to get less black line and more color to fill it in. The color will fade with time, but can be redone multiple times. Once the black lines blur together, too bad, it's done.

My first tat is 22 years old and is still very recognizable. I want to get it re-colored and get the rest of the sleeve done, but haven't found a decent artist yet.

I always think about mine for months before i get one. This way, it's always something meanigful

Thanks for the help guys. I REFUSE to get one of those lame tribal designs, just plain stupid. I'd rather have something more personal. My only problem is that my parents would likely go ballastic if they found out that I got a tattoo (I'm 19 FTW).

Don't get something for the sake of getting one. That's awful. It's not unique...and it's impulsive.

I trademarked mine before I got it...I coined a slogan and got it stamped on my leg.

some parents do and some parents really like

carry around the image you want in your wallet or truck and look at it eveyday for at least a few months. If you can look at it everyday, and show it to everyone, then your probbaly on a god track...

If I had it to do again I wouldn't do it.

I've heard that a lot from friends that have them.........

I know a few people who wanted tats, and now are getting them removed...

I have thought about it, and really like the looks of some, but have never pulled the trigger and probably never will.

Think on it for a long time. Both of mine were along time in the making.

I did go for all blacks/gray but it's all part of my plan to be the old man drinking whiskey, sitting on the porch yelling at kids!!

Ask around and think on the artist as this will make or break the work. Don't judge just on cost though, be more concerned with the artists reputation. Small shops may charge less for the same quality as a big shop with more bills to pay.
My first one is ok work, but the guy wasn't the best and I can tell a bit. My second, the lady put over 24 hours into drawing it and had several ideas when I showed up. Let me pick the final one and even asked it I wanted all the sketches(I let her keep them, why not share beauty.) The lady that did it was willing to work with me over the phone and via email to get going before I showed up, the whole tat is based off a poem. My only request was to have the words, "do not go gentle" in the work, the rest was her choice and she nailed it.

Tat 1 the lake I grew up on

Tat 2(very well known artist in tat circles. Used to run Tiger Lilly Tattoos in Stockton MN) Based on the poem "Do Not Go Gentle" which pretty much has been my lifes moto since I first read it

You could be the first guy in your school to have a tramp stamp....
.....or you could have your girl friend's name tattooed on your arm....

Just do it.....everyone has one...!!

have a tattoo getting another im 20 after a few months i forgot it was actually there my thinking is no tattoos where you can't hide them with clothes

also there addicting so watch out :D

best advice I can give...never ever put a womans name on your body.....your mom , dad or kids..yes but never wife or girlfriend..is a royal headache when you end up with another.....

Yeah, make sure you can look at it everyday, thats good advise.

buddy of mine has the Washington Redskins logo on shoulder and he wishes he never chose that because, hes not really a 'Skins fan anymore LOL. I have another friend whos got the Chevy logo on his arm, and hes now a Ford fan
