Question on riding/camping crescent lake

Some friends and me were wanting to plan a trip to crescent saddle cabin on crescent lake on the kenai peninsula. Which way is the best/shortest to go up? How's the trail? Is it very steep? How is the riding? Hows the ice fishing?

If you go in on the Crescent Lake side, the trail is short, and very steep, but its all switchbacks so its really easy. The trail head/parking lot is on the right hand side of the road as you head south toward Seward. Its right before the hatchery on your left. The riding is okay, and could be great if the snow is good, but most of it is very steep, and avy danger can be extreme. Watch out for soft spots on the lakes, they are deep, and can have warm springs that keep the ice quite thin. There is good fishing in the summer, not sure about the winter.

I went up there last weekend. There was just enough snow to lay down some alders to highmark and ride around. Carter lake is definatly iced over safely. Crescent lake is safe in spots (anywhere besides either end of the lake because of the creeks) there were people ice fishing on carter lake. if you need anymore info pm me. I ride up there probably 15 times every year
