Question: GPS - make, model and mounting

Can't speak for battery life on the other models, but I've left my Rino 530 on for 72 hours straight and it still had a little juice left. Makes hard wiring unnecessary for my usage.

When I was shopping for a GPS about a year ago, the Magellan did not have any software available for AK. So the system would work fine, but you would have no database, topo lines etc. Garmin on the other hand had a full AK database available and it was included with the rest of N. America, as one would expect. Perhaps this has changed by now. Anyhow, just a thought if you would be using it in Northern Canada or AK.

Hey Cat08M8 i want to mount my gps just like you did using ram mounts in the same spot on my m7. so what do i need to mount my rhino 530? the rhino cradle and one of flat surface mounts with the daimond???

i got mine from wps part number 62-4714 and that came with it all it has a rubber mount on the back of it then i just drilled the 2 holes.... let me know if that helps at all

for sure same thing here i didnt want to mess with the hard wire at first i got all the stuff to do it then when i got an xtra bat anyway i just carry that with me just incase.......

Yes, the car charger is probably the most fool-proof way to get the right voltage out of there. It was my understanding most of them have regulation built onto the input terminals so they could take just about anything.
My garmin E-trex has a cig lighter adapter, so i think im gonna hook a cig adapter to the sled so i can roll the gps on sled power. i dont like the weak battery thing, i mainly use if for speed and elevation, i ride the same places, and know them very well.

anyone got any good mapping software that I could maybe borrow, i bought my garmin used and he sorta forgot to send the cd's so mine is kinda useless

I'm looking at picking up Radio/GPS unit such as a Garmin Rhino 110, 120 or 130. Anyone have experience with these?

I use the 120 Rhino. I haven't used the tracking feature because I am the only one in my riding group with one but the GPS side works great. I leave it in my pack most of the time and it seems to keep a signal realy well. I have no complaints. 130 has more memory though. My next will be the 130 or the 530 for more memory and color screen.

i used the rhino 120 for 3 years almost every time i went hunting or riding. its a great little GPS however, battery life is short. also the screen leaves alot to be desired. I just picked up a rino 530 and the battery life is much better. the big color screen is amazing.

if a 120 is what you can afford then go for it. just make sure you carry extra batteries. if you want the best get the 530.
