Question for the ladies, or guys

My fiance want to start learning to ride harder this year because she finally realized that's the only way we can hang out.

This all sounds great but when you get to the parking lot and there are a couple feet of fresh, there is no way she can muscle her way around in it without a sled "fit for ladies".

She was able to carve a 1997 rmk 700 with full SLP set up last year in ideal condition but the deep is still going to allude her.

We switched her up to a 2002 RMK 700 144 with a can and riser (best we could do in the budget).

I know this is still going to be too much weight for her. She wants more power than the stock 700's have because it feels safer in a bad situation.

What I want is a light weight, readily available, power house, that can carry 120 pounds to the top of any climb.

The only real options that I can see are the 06+ rmk 600 or rev 600 SDI.

any opinions?

I am into mtn riding so that is what we will be doing the most of.

thanks

my son has an 08 600 ho rmk with the 155..it is an overacheiving wonder...it is a riot to ride easy to carve, climbs great..climbs on top in deep snow...if she worries about power a bigbore kit for it is pretty reasonable from what I hear...

Good to hear. I just got an 06 rev so I dont want her to out do me yet. Coming from polaris I believe they are reliable I just cant afford the new big dogs yet. Is the 08 the only year to get? We have a pretty limited budget, hence the 02 700

i agree, it would be 07+ 600 rmk though......the 06 is an entirely different animal. would NOT recommend for her. heavier, not NEAR as nimble to ride. sure you want your worlds to collide??? ;-)

Chic Sled???

So a 600 in the newer chassis of Polaris (Know Nothing of the Skidoos) is going to rock! 07 + awsome, but if she is already riding the 7 and wanting more power I would stay in the 7's. Or mod the 6 some. Another option the M7 is a great sled, I loved mine awsome top end power, but WFO all the time. And would be affordable. (Minimal mods to those and they rip stockish) And track keep it in the 153-155. :D

skidoo rev 600sdi or carb, throw some simmons skis and a smitty drop brackets slap a 151 under it, i will trade you straight acroos for a 144 if you want the length.

this thing was easy for me to rip all day without the suspension and ski mods and im not very heavy.

Two years ago my wife rode an 01 700 RMK. That worked fine in the firm snow we had that season. During the summer I added reeds and an SLP can. After two rides last season in the early season fluff, she decided she needed something that handled better. I friend of mine had just got an 07 600 RMK for his wife and my wife loved it. However, there were no reasonable deals on 600 RMK's in our area. We found a holdover 06 M6 with only 75 miles on it. She really liked it and it handled great for her. We put on a lefty throttle and an SLP air horn. That sled will take her almost anywhere, even in the pow. IMO any 07 or later 600 be it Polaris, Ski-doo or Cat will be a great improvement. The horsepower to weight ratios are much better than in an 02 sled.

Every girl i ride with prefers the rev over the IQ anyday???? Im not sure why? But 600 SDI revs are great and cheep. I sold in a few months ago that would have been perfect! You missed out bud, sorry. :(

There is only one female i know that rides an IQ and its a 07 600 with a 660 kit and she has been riding for 15+ plus years and her hubby is on a T800 Dragon. My late mother never ever liked the IQ chassis and she always seemed to do a LOT better on her rev.

My advice to you is let her ride your sled and rent her a 09 600 or 700 RMK. If she likes it get a 07 600 or 700, if not get a 05+ 600 rev.

hate to say the dreaded words...but know LOTS of chica riders that LOVE the M7's and they are pretty cheap!!! and from what i have seen pretty reliable...in a 162" track there is not much she wont be able to play on ....

Getting her a newer sled is going to make the biggest difference I think. I love my 07 600 Summit, but soon as I get the money it's getting traded for an 800. Just not enough power, and I've only had it since last December. If she's going to be an aggressive mountain rider get a bigger sled. She might love it, but will outgrow it fast. When I don't like a sled it's not because it doesn't have enough power, it's because of the weight or how it handles. I hated our 06 900 RMK- so heavy, bad suspension. The power wasn't a problem, I loved how much power it had. An 06 Rev would be good also. My boyfriend has an 800 Summit that's great, I steal it whenever I get the chance. It's not super heavy, and the power gets me places my sled won't.

Just having a newer sled with the steering and suspension set up differences will be great, and make sure it's got a decent riser. I get on a sled without a riser (mine's 8 inches I think?) and it is so awkward. If you can afford a little extra just get an 800, if you're getting Ski-Doo. I don't know much about the other brands. 2006's were good sleds.

Oh, and go out with just her. Getting left miles behind 10 guys on your first few weeks of riding is more frustrating than fun. Go to a place you can both ride how you want (without a lot of other people) and let her learn. I spent lots of time in the foothills learning, while my bf was building jumps.

I think the key from all of these "get a sled for a girl" posts is that sled chicks need the same amount of power as the guys they ride with.... period. They are smart..they can handle it! Don't be worried about the power, that is not the issue. The issue is what is controlling it....and I think us guys are more of a problem (cough, not me, cough lol) with power. That and it seems like we get a little protective about having a....special one ..... on a big motored sled, since we do stupid stuff on them all the time!

Biggest thing I have seen is to get a new light sled and get it setup for them. Since most weigh quite a bit less then guys, it requires appropriate suspension setups and clutching.

Just some IMO's from observations on here....

She already hopped on my 06 summit X and said it handles better, and that was in the freaking parking lot at first snow. I know I will be riding the 02 and she will me on my new baby.

She rode better than a few guys we took last year and she only had 3-5 rides under her belt.

Maybee, I will give her my 06 x next season and UPGRADE TO AN 09 muhhhahah!

Thanks for the input.

SO how many say put her on an 800 vs a 600?

I know alot of older gents that ride new 600 RMK's and like em but when she rode the old 700 with twins, a head, reed, aribox, etc she hated a stocker.

Sounds like she's willing and able to be a ripper... I would question getting her a 600 if she's that aggressive already...

I think any new chassis sled and she's gonna be stoked!! If you want to deal with the mod world maybe get a 600 for now that she can learn to push the limits on and then plan on getting her more motor next season. I hear the tight on $$ thing... but if you want her to enjoy and excell until she can be a RIPPIN partner riding the steep and deep with ya don't short change her!!

Women are riding pretty aggressively these days' there is NOTHING to say she can't be right beside you the whole way but you have to get her the right equipemnt for it! HOWEVER, if the passion is really there she will deal with riding a crappy sled for another season until you guys can afford to get her a good one... I know TON of us had to go through it, just cause we ride rippin mtn sleds now doesn't mean we didn't start somewhere!! there is definitely something to be gained from a season or two on a crappy sled (if the passion is there so that you don't RUIN her to the sport and if you make sure she knows it's just a money issue and her rippin mtn sled is right around teh corner!) Riding a smaller sled teaches you to ride within your limits. Learning those limits will be important for her to really push herself and excell. Don't get her in over her head OR her sleds head, if you keep her on a crap sled this season. Understand yourself that she is on a lesser machine and don't force her to ride too far into the comfort level of that machine...

but if you can get her on a mtn sled with a new chassis... She sounds like she'll be RIGHT THERE!!! Get her on the women's forum, lots of great chick specific info for her over there...

Good luck!!

From a guy who's wife rides like a person possesed, trust me.
All the opinions in the world don't mean a thing.

Take her down to a dealership.
let her pick a sled to TEST RIDE.
Let her ride the 600, 700, 800cc sleds and see which one she likes. She will know which sled she feels most comfortable with. Then the only problem might be saving up the cash to get it.

If you pic a sled out for her, chances are, it won't be as good a fit as a sled she will pick out.

Remember, SHE is the one who needs the sled. She needs to pick it out. Help her out with your opinion on what to get, but the final decision has to be hers.

oh and one more thing. Don't be fooled, the older 600, 700cc sleds are a WHOLE different critter than what you get today. A 07/08/09 700cc RMK has the same power as the older 2005 and earlier 800 RMK's. They will suprise you.

Everyone always talks about power and engine size! It appears like the girls don't want to be out penis'd in the cc department (hmm kind of like the dudes) and don't want to be delegated to a the designation of the ride of a "chick sled". Well that's all alot of parking lot/internet jockey bunk. A skinny little devil that can flat ride will far outperform a fatty that can't humping a bigger cc sled. It don't matter wether you p sitting or standing!

It's all about power to weight combined with rider skill on a properly applicated platform.

Buy what motates through the snow with the greatest of ease in the most power you can afford. Always remember these important words for sleds "BUY LIGHT!" If you are light and can get it done riding BUT a 600 makes one feel inferior either stay off of the internet or peel the 600 sticker off and go ride....if your great big or lack skills then buy more power...get skinnier...or once again stay off of the internet!

Genius!! I picked me up an 06 rev 600 sdi last year with under 400 miles perfect shape for 4400 bucks. all my buddies are on 800s. BIG DEAL. They wouldn't have known I was on a 6 if the decal wasn't there. The thing rips and I'm not sittin a ride out when I loose my motor. lost 3 800s last winter.

I think you just need to bring her down to ride with us. It doesn't matter what she's riding as long as she's comfortable with it she'll do just fine. It's not how far you can go it's how comfy you are !!
