Question about RK Tek Heads

I'm kicking the idea around about installing an RK Tek Head on my 08 M1000. I ride 75% boondock, 25% hillclimb; what kind of power and performance gains can I expect??? How difficult is the install and set up?? I ride 2000' -7000', what would be the best compression ratio?? See sig below for my current setup....

Well I have have an RKT head on a 800 mc and m7, On the M it is a pretty easy install only difficulty is draining the anti-freeze. I just suck it out with a shop vac taking of the hose on the top of head. I recommend lifting the front of the M because of the way the lay down motor is tilted forward this will level off the motor some and you will not have to take as much anti-freeze out. On my 7 I did have a problem torking one of the head bolts near the steering rod so I had to use an open ended wrench and just guess on tork. Lastly the o-rings tend to grow so I would get another set just in case you cannot get them to fit when you put it back together. Mine went right in with no problem but I had a spare set just in case. HP increase? Kelsey does not like to give numbers but I believe 5 to 6 is what you may get from his head. On both I had to lean the mixture some because of the combustion chamber design.

Usually the opposite with RKT heads

fuel + air = horsepower........... Did you mean richen it?

Kelsey's cylinder heads burn a lot more efficiently (a more complete burn). I've found the biggest benefit of the head is cooling, and better, crisper throttle response (seat of the pants, not dyno'd). I ride from 4 - 9000' and use a 13.6:1 dome on my M1000 - but I suggest that you call him and have him design the head for you and your riding elevation. I've never richened the mixture with one of his heads - it either cleaned up the stock mapping some or I removed a touch of fuel (on my doo 800's). Give him a call, it is worth the price of the phone call.

Kelsey says you have to jet down with his head design because of his patented
domes. Some of his heads he recomended droping several jet sizes to get the right fuel to air ratio. I have his head on my m1000 and like it alot. Much better them some of the other choices.

I'd like to see pics of the domes, I have trouble embracing that theory. If you jet down and the sled is crisper, well um... I'll let everyone else draw their own conclusions on that one. Anyone have a/f logs and dyno charts before and after?

rktek heads work awesome and for the 1000 the porting works really well too. I suggest you call him and ask him what would be the best setup for your type of riding and altitude.

Ditto.

Call Kelsey, tell him what altitude & what kind of gas you want to run & he'll get you the right domes.

His head works great on my 09 HCR I had him cut two different sets of domes as well one for down low n ones for out west. They both make a noticable difference over stock. Hate to be a broken wreckerd but yeah give him a call good guy to talk to
