I have a 01 rmk 800 I was wondering if i could drill a few holes in the running boards so that snow can fall threw and it wouldnt get built up on them or will that lighten them to much so they flex or bend? i would buy a set of better boards but dont have the extera $$$$ to spend right now.

heck yeah im plan to drill some holes on my 2000 rmk... prody will do it next week.... but my guess is how big hole will be? if its abt 1 1/2 inch of hole and the snow will built it cover.. thats what im wondering... i will give it a shot.

You cut out the existing running board and rivet in an insert that has bigger openings. Examples are: snow eliminators, better boards, and I think F U boards by mountain fit hoods.
I have a set of snow eliminators on my 03 ZX chassis and they work pretty good, also stiffened up the running boards a lot. But I think that they all are a great idea no matter which brand you buy.

Better Boards!

I think it must matter a lot on how you ride, because every sled i've had, I've bent the running boards. I weigh around 200lbs so maybe that's it, but I had a '98 rmk 700, a '01 rmk 800, and now an '05 M7, and each one on the right side had a bent running board. Only on the right side though. On my M7 I had to replace the round outer edge of the running board because it was cracked and ready to break. I put the snow eliminators on it after replacing that for more reason to reinforce it than to eliminate the snow. They do help with the snow though too.

I used a hole saw and drilled 1 1/2" holes on my 01 rmk, I then took a homemade tool and flared the holes. This helped for snow and stayed stiff but I just ordered a set of the black better boards, I think this will be the cats meow.

These are from F Bomb and are the same as Rotax's except the powder coating and these are on a Gen II.

Yup, it's your fat azz! j/k. :beer; I ridden the crap out of my sleds and never bent the running boards. I've tweaked suspension mounts and bent rails from jumping, but not the boards.
