question about gearing.

hello fellow 900 riders, rght now i have a 121x15x1.5 track i was thinking of puttng a 121x2 inch. but my gearing is WAY to high. 24-38 pretty sure, i wanna put stock 900 gearing, 19-39 i should still be able to do 80 mph right? cause thats what i want. i just dont want it to be to low were i only hit 70 mph.

clutching should stay the same right? let me know what you guys think.

ps yes i have a really short track on my sled. lol:pound:

damn thats a short track...my skis are longer then that i think. LOL...

yeh you can hit 80mph with the 19/39 i bet. worth a shot...i bet you wont have to change your clutching too much if any...try the gears and see what you got...

Triple650 can you clarify your intentions riding your snowmobile? The 900 short track(fusion) is made for speed. There is nothing wrong with what you have now as far as gearing/track. That sled will easily pull 100mph+. So gearing down and adding lug height is pointless or more specifically, adding to likelyhood of track failure at high rate of speed. As you reach 70mph and above shorter lugs perform better and much safer. Now we're not talking RPM's here, ask your teacher about the 'nature' of energy in relation to speed, you might find that day at math class interesting!

im not looking for speed, i dont need to go over 80 mph, i rarely do it. i want that 0-80 pull, right now having my sled geared for 114 mph is useless, because when im full throttle going across a feild doing 80 mph, my track speed isnt 114 mph. now if i add traction, plus a lower gear ratio im able to get more hp to my track, so when im going slower lets say 40 mph, when i hammer it, ill be able to get my track speed up faster because it is geared lower right?

its hard for me to explain but im pretty sure i understand the way tings work. i dont need to go fast, i want more traction and a lower gear ratio to get my track speed up faster, thus making my sled have faster acceleration.

i hope you guys under stand what im trying to say.

Hang on

19 / 41 0r 19 / 42 in your case will work depends on if you want to buy a chain or not.

Might literally SMOKE the little track :face-icon-small-sho

with that setup i wont need a new chain? i dont want to go to low of ratio. the stock 600 racers have 19-45 gearing, so imagine the 900, 150hp with a 121x2" gonna run like a raped ape!!! :pound:

What you're going to do is spin like crazy out of the hole then have a very lazy upshift because you will be on the second angle of the helix after 30 mph. If you want big pull to 80, gear for 90-95, run a 54-44 progressive and weight the clutch accordingly.

Gotcha! 650 thank you for expaining what you're getting at, I had always thought my sled had room for improvement in that midrange, I would swap friends' sleds, 6-7-800's Cat, Doo's and Poo's & almost all felt quicker to me but then switch back and no one can overtake that 900?! Deceptively fast and quick accel. it's kinda weird to me. This is on a 144 1 1/4" track, 62/42 helix, 24:37 92 pitch @ around 1300'.

yea but that doesnt make sense? the stock 600 iqr's run 19-45, and can still do 70 mph and have incredible acceleration. spinning like razy is good when you have alot of traction.

you have to understand, i dont need to go fast. as long as it pulls to 80 mph thats all i want.

Also would 20-40 allow me to run my stock chain? if i can avoid buying a longer one i will.
