Putting On ODI Grips

My 2002 RMK800 Runs great, but there are some vibrations in the handlebars. Now I have the clutch off getting balanced, just to make sure the crank will live, but I also want to put on rubber grips.

I am not sure about other sleds, but mine has factory hooks and grips that are real thin and like a hard plastic. I have some 8" long ODI grips that I picked up at Bobs Cycle, and they say they are for sleds.

Now, I would like to just leave the stock grips on there and just put the new grips over it. The stock grips seem very thin, barely larger in diamater than the hooks (maybe 1/16 diam larger).

Anyone have any thoughts?

The ODI grips went right over the stock hooks and grips, just used some air pressure. Now on the throttle side I had to trim back about a inch from the block so that the throttle went WFO, but other than that it was easy to put on.

I install rubber grips over the top of my stock grips. These are cycle style grips so they are only about 5" long and don't come down over the hooks very far. Since I am dealing with a 7/8" diameter end in the grip, I pull the hook, insert a blow gun in a flat fender washer that matches up and press against the grip end. With light air pressure and some finesse, it will balloon the grip up and you can force it onto the bar. Once the first side is done, I reinstall the hook, and repeat on the second side.

If your grips are longer and capped, you may have to punch a small hole in the end to allow the air to be blown in to puff it up.
