PTO SEAL install

Not for sure

It looks to me like you can replace the pto seal with out spliting the case. I have never done just the seal, I have only rebuilt three Doo engines and split the case to install a crank. To me if the seal is leaking I would worry that the bearings are failing causeing the seal to fail ??? Dino

I have never seen an engine that the crank seal can be replaced without splitting the case. There is usually a ring on the outside of the seal that goes in a groove in the case. This keeps the seal i place and correctly aligned. I wouldn't see how you could get the seal in and straight without tearing it up.

seal

im going to replace one on my buddys 03 800. needs it because when the belt blew it pushed the seal in. the place he bought the seal from told him to "just pound it in there itll shear that rib right off", wow i think not

do it from the out side

on the 04 rev you can replace the seal from the out side the seal is about 30 bucks the grease you must buy to put in it is about 60 bucks
happens alot if the belt grenades and you dont get the little pieces out from behing the primary

It can be done, just not pretty. Make sure you heat the stock seal retainer bolts up since they usually have good loctite. Make a pusher using a washer and a piece of PCV pipe to use your clutch bolt to pull the seal in. This is a little nicer than trying to pound it in.
