Protective gear

Hey guys what do you all wear for protective gear? Chest protectors? Shin guards?

I would like to get some gear but not sure where to look

I just got a motorfist chest protector which is pretty much the same as an evs sv1. A buddy I ride with wears the klim tekvest

Is there a knee/ shin guard that's highly recommended ?

If you search for this topic you will find a bunch of recommendations. Not sure how current the products are in old threads but should give you an idea. I am going to do this soon as I need to invest in some shin guards because they have taken enough abuse.

The Klim Vest is manufactured by TekVest, and the Motorfist Vest is manufactured by EVS. Both awesome products, just was easier to brand a vest rather than re-invent the wheel for a protective piece of their own. Both work phenomenal. As for shin/knee guards Leatt products sell the best for us, and come very highly regarded. They are one of the longest running protective brands in the moto world, and their name speaks for itself. They make some versions that are both knee and shin protection, and a few that are just shin. In our industry it is imperative to find a piece that will fit nice with your boots because you don't want the boot to be uncomfortable, and many of the protective brands are built around a moto boot. Feel free to call us or write to ask specifics, we have sold many pairs to sledders and can answer most questions regarding an individuals personal questions or needs.

What are most people doing for Coat and Pant sizes to fit over or under knee braces and chest protectors?

I can see regular pant size working, but have doubts about getting a Tek vest under my regular coat size.

I wear one size bigger jacket. I don't wear shin pads for sledding. I seem to rip my pants if I do.

An Arctic Cat branded Tekvest. I tend to run without a mid layer when riding with the vest which means I don't have to go a coat size up from what I usually wear with a midlayer under it.

Most people will go up a size in the jacket when wearing a true tekvest style. A lot of our customers can get away with wearing body armor under there current jacket though as it is much less bulky.

Tek vest, thor knee/shin guards and in the spring I wear a kidney belt when things get lofty. Those items are just as important as a helmet to me.

Omega Neck brace (Affordable, with protection = or better than Leatt) , Ballistic Jersey( Prefer Race Tekvest, but compromised to this to make neck brace work with jacket), EVS knee/shin guards(essential equipment), Kali (Motorfist) Helmet( Great protection technology, good weight/cost)

Tek vest and Fox shin/knee pad combo. Fits well under power cross pullover and freestyle pants.

I've always been priced out of the protective vest market, just couldn't swing the $300+, but I know I need one, so I've been keeping my interwebs ear to the ground...just got my first tekvest for $28.49 off ebay!

So how much room am I going to need if I ride it under my coat? I'm on the small side of medium.

Try it with your current jacket. It might be just fine. This style tek vest it's larger than their ogres so you might have to go up a jacket size to feel comfortable.

I wear an under-the-jersey style motocross chest protector (currently a troy lee designs UPS 7850-HW) over top of a thin layer of under armor, then a jersey, and regular size jacket. The chest protector is great, but It has served 3 seasons of moto/sled use and is due for replacement now. Going to try the Leatt 3DF Airfit this season. Has a zipper to take it off like a tek-vest but still fits tight to the body and the 3DF foam is pretty cool stuff if you have never looked into it before.

The other piece of equipment I wear is a Leatt neck brace. It has literally saved my neck a few times and I just wear it over the top of my coat. Don't notice it's there while I'm riding either.

The 3DF AirFit is a great choice,we have sold a ton of them. 25% lighter and more breathable than the regular 3DF material while still providing the same protection. Super easy to use, and again a product that you can invest once in and use it year round.

TekVest if anything. More times than not anymore I find myself NOT wearing it. I should, but sometimes it feels uncomfortable so it gets left in the truck.

Me and a buddy started using the demon snow gear last year. I like it a lot and seems to work well as one of your base layers. I had the d30 which has the shoulder and elbow pads in it but i might try another that is a little less bulky, I never was a big fan of the tek vests
