Pros/Cons on a 03 Mountain Cat 900.

Have a buddy looking to buy one of these just wondering if its a good dependable sled or not. Hope its not a disaster like the Polaris 900's.

Very Solid Machine

Very solid machine. Ride isn't as smooth as the new M Chassis. But the motor, chain case, etc is solid.

Just check the drive shaft bearings, clutch weight bushings.

Compressions should be around 150lbs at 1200'.

O' Late build or early 03 build? Makes a difference.

The chasis has been around for a while and the engine has proven itself trustworthy I would not worry about buying one.

Check for stress cracks around the bulkhead near the front suspension and around the area where the engine bolts in.

Down by the drivers on ea. side there is a slot, See if this is cracked? If it is an 03.5 with the slotted holes in the running board it is the one you wan't. Has the good timing curve! Strongest runner of the bunch, But rides like a truck! Low miles and if the price and condition is good, You can't go wrong!

Bang for the buck one of the best you can buy. Solid motor. Had tough time letting mine go.

You will have a hard time finding anything as reliable with good mountain performance as this sled for this price. IMO.

i just moved out to the mountains from fargo north dakota, before i moved out here i sold my flat land sled..now as the snow is falling im getting the itch again..

im not really a polaris, yamaha, arctic cat, ski doo guy..i just want a good sled at a good price, ive found a couple but decided not to pull the trigger..

but i found one that i might be very interested in its a 2001 arctic cat mountain cat 800

2700 miles on it (400 miles on top end rebuild) this is a little of whats done to it..

New top end including pistons, bearings, all gaskets, and polishing of the exhaust ports.
159” x16” Maverick with 9 tooth extroverts
SLP Twins with front dump exhaust
Carb slides cut to eliminate midrange bog
Slydog Skis
Regeared 19/43 with 15 wide chain
New primary clutch with black/yellow slp spring and polaris 10-60 weights
Sno Pro spring and 51 degree helix on the secondary
Two wheeled
New hifax
3” Rox risers

looks like its in flawless condition


is 2200 good for it?
