Proper place to power an AFR Gauge

I'm putting an Innovate AFR Gauge on my '12 Pro. I have read many threads on here about taking power from different places on the Pro. I understand the problems with "taking" power. I haven't found a definitive answer as to where is the best place to get power from.

Innovate says you need 3 Amps for heating the sensor. I DON'T want to take it from the DC plug by the clutch cover.

Has anyone come up with the best place to do this?

Is it good to get a bridge rectifier and hook it up the the AC plug by the post?

Mountainhorse......It would be great if you could chime in here or anyone who has done this.

Thanks!

Newby,

You may have already done this, but I highly recommend reading the "DC Power on a Pro thread below:

There really is no perfect answer to this question. If your '12 has electric start, run your power straight from the battery and use a relay triggered by the DC accessory wire under the hood. If you don't have a battery, guys have had success using an E-start harness and pulling DC power there. Others have just hooked directly to the DC acc wire and powered a gauge.....this is not recommended for the reasons I'm sure you know.

If you're willing to splice wires, running a bridge rectifier off the AC side will give you plenty of DC power, but it requires a little more electrical know how.

Good luck!

I have my AFR hooked up the power plug by the head light. I know lots of others that have theres hooked up to that power source as well. None of us have had any issues yet.

Manchiest660... Did you guys change the 2 amp fuse by the clutch cover to a larger one or have you blown the fuse before

Thanks,

We never changed any fuses. They are all working great so far. I did lots of reading on this topic as well but thought I would try it. So far works great and would do it again.
