Promoting Avalanche Riding

I normally try hard to find a positive in people's posts, but honestly OT- do you practice being a jerk or does it just come natural? Get off your high horse. We have near daily discussions on safety, including avalanche. Stop nagging. Either contribute something helpful, or leave.

I would say Snowest along with this forum has been very proactive to inform people about the dangers of avalanches. This forum has informed and educated many riders. The mindset of many riders has changed significantly in the past 5 years.
Yes, many magazines and riders post photos and videos of climbs, but you cannot really determine the stability of the slope by looking at photos or footage. It's not that you shouldn't climb in avalanche terrain, you need to pick the right day to climb (when the stability is right), be properly prepared if something does go wrong, and only put one person in danger at a time.
You cannot eliminate all the risk in riding in avalanche terrain since avalanches are not 100% predictable, but you can increase your odds tremendously by being educated, prepared and following what you learned.
I feel this forum is a great source of information. Mike Duffy

I agree with Mike, I think SW has been a great place to gain Avalanche Awareness knowledge! There have been tons of class dates and times posted here as well as tons of links dealing with avalanche awareness.

All three Avalanche classes I attended were posted here on Snowest!
