These were taken a while ago. It has gone through numerous changes throughout the build and I'm not sure where some of the pics ended up.
Started as a 77 TXL. A friend of mine had a 86 600 that was in a mod shop when the place burned down so all that was left of it was the chasis and rear suspension. Put the rear suspension in the TXL but couldn't keep the skis on the ground- ever. Came up with the idea of putting IFS on it, cut apart the bulkhead from the 86 and put the front half of it (sway bar channel forward) on the TXL. Kept going from there, now it is:
Bored, ported (mild), piped- Aaen quiet pipes, clutched- P85, geared (down). Sits quite a bit higher now, upgraded to an Xtra 10 rear suspension and longer front shocks off the rear of a BMW RS 1000 bike, (couldn't find any sled shocks with enough travel). Set up for some serious ditch bangin, kinda like ridin an RM 125.
Most of parts started as OEM but have been modified in one way or another. 89 650 seat and tank (for the red and black) also for the bigger fuel tank, still a mixer and that is sometimes a pain. Had to make the hood taller but wanted to keep the "original" starfire look as much as possible. Always turned a lot of heads when I pulled it out and no one really knew what it was but some would ask. Older Polaris guys would look at it and say "they never made one like that" so it was kind of fun like that.
Haven't riden it for years, moved to Wyoming for the mountain riding and stuffed it in a pole barn back in Mn.. Keep sayin that I'll pull it out one of these days but never do.
