Production model pump gas turbo?

I would like to see a production model 2-stroke turbo hit the market in the next few years. 6-8 lbs of boost on 91 octane. Will we see it from Doo, Cat or Polaris? I think it would be a huge success in the marketplace. :D

Don't know who will be first, but I think you'll see it soon.;)
Maybe a little sketchy to throw a warranty with it.

Not going to happen. The cost on the sleds is to much now let alone when you throw a $6000 turbo on it. Develop an engine to run it on, and make it run good with no lag and still be able to warranty it.

Yamaha said in a an interview "yes our sleds are built well and take turbos and superchargers well but we could not manufacture one and be able to warranty it; even tho our engines are very suitable for turbos and superchargers, you will not see a factory model."

They are making sleds user friendly, cheaper, and less failures. If you want a factory built turbo, talk to CMX, they will be offering one this year. Its about $36,000 for the top model so you might want to get a loan.

Hmmm. When I bought my RMK 800 in 2000 it was 7900.
To get an RMK 8 now, you have to give at least 3000 more.

I don't think they could ever get one to pass emissions statndards, it would be nice though.

Scott.....look at what you get for $3k more these days. It costs more than that to make a 2000 800 RMK run with a new 800. Longer tracks, less weight more HP, and electronic reverse.

If the sled business ever gets profitable again you might see something.

Without some big snow years in the midwest I don't think you will see big sales again. If there would be some big snowfalls in the midwest I think you would see a large increase but nothign like it used to be

no one ever thought that a manufacturer would put a turbo on anything....but how many 4-stroke turbos have we had? warranties don't seem to be a problem....the cost of putting a turbo on at the factory is far less than 6000 dollars, and can be done for less than 3000....cat has a 600 turbo running around a couple of mountain states, several people have seen it.... emmisions? not sure.....market? oh yeah, it's there

I don't think they could get it to meet EPA standards and be worth a crap. I asked the Cat engineers when I met them why they don't vent the sleds better i.e. side vents, and they said they wanted to but EPA regulations wouldn't allow it. If vents are a no go, good luck with the sound levels and emissions of a two stroke turbo.

$7900 in 2000 is the equivalent of $10,400 today at straight 3% inflation each year...and that is just about what an RMK 800 costs this year (non dragon) and I would argue that you are getting a sled with the equivalent of doing about $5k worth of mods in 2000 (suspension, track, seat, tunnel ext, bars/risers, etc...)...and the current models will run circles around the old iron, stock for stock.

just a thought.
