Those who know me on here, know I have a cabin 50 miles from the road, which means we tow sleds with fuel, food and such..so tunnel strength is important...some have seen my red dragon..same deal...I have had lots of PM's lately about tunnel reinforcments so I figured this might help those looking for info...I made these reinforcments this last spring for myself and 2 close friends..mine have sat here collecting dust until last week, figured I better get them to the powder coater..so sometime in the next 2 months I will get the sled into the shop and do the install with pics and explanations to show the whole process for those interested....

on the black peices, the large hole is for our state registrations, the smaller hole is for vin access, when I install these it will be done with solid rivits(mixture of black and silver coated rivits) and lords adhesive, I havent decided yet if I want to do a set of skinz airframe type moly tube boards or better boards, but with the air frames I will remove the complete stock side/boards rather then sandwich them in...

Very nice work AK, very nice. I certainly appreciate someone that sees a need and can come up with that level of solution. Sharpe with the details for the registration and vin#.

Well Done!

Nice job AK, are you planning on selling any of these? Or can you send me dimensions of these because my brother has a water jet so I can cut some up for myself. thanks

Nice design on the Pro tunnel reinforcements! Looks good on the Pro and is Alaskan Tough. The Lords adhesive will hold the tunnel reinforcements real nice with the solid rivets.

My vote is for the Skinz AirFrame Boards. They added strength to the tunnel and had very little snow/ice buildup. No matter what there was traction when I put my boot down on the Skinz board.

Thanks guys, yes I can make and sell these..but for most it may be cheaper to use my ideas and add their own to come up with their own design that is unique to their needs, then have the local metal shop cut it for you, then get it powder coated..its pretty simple to do really, decide what level of reinforcment you really need(towing sleds, carrying 10 gal of fuel on it, or just a bit more then stock)make a template from poster board that fits right to the tunnel exactly as you want the finished peice to and then have the metal shop scan the template on their scanner and feed it to the water jet(you will end up with a disc that allows repeatability)have it cut, try it for fit and finish and then get it coated and install...I will add that every once in a while(mostly only on the biggest peices) the scanned image can be off from the template..and if you look close on these you will see that where the running board brace hits the tunnel the template is off by about 1/2"..I normally catch these even if the jet guy misses it..I didnt this time(not a biggy strength wise just not quite as clean as I like), i will correct this before I burn any moore of them but always check your template to your cut peices as soon as they are cut...

thanks Jim, I am prety sure moly tube is the way I am headed(figuring I will go make ricky(rofmn) whip up a set since he has so much free time and I dont....we need to hook up and ride this year for sure....
