Pro running Boards Better?

I haven't seen anything better than airframes, but in the sub-$200 range, Throttle-Up boards are the ticket. They're better because plastic doesn't collect snow like metal does. When was the last time you had to kick snow off your hood? I've had Fastlane No-Snos for 2 years and the grip provided by set-screws is very good.

Throttle-Up boards are just like Better Boards, only they're topped with a thin layer of plastic to shed snow. One would think that painted/powdercoated metal would work just as well but it doesn't. I've ridden many sleds w/ powdercoated tunnels and they still gather snow. It makes no difference to me what anyone buys, but having owned both kinds I'm sure that the only people who buy aluminum boards are the folks who have never tried the plastic ones.

Do they have them for the Pro? Only shows for the IQ on their website. Also how do you get traction? You mention setscrews - any pics of them?

Thanks,

G

funnily enough, I posted this following input on another thread regarding the differences between the 2011 and 2012 boards...it is FAR more relevant here;

"Slighty (marginally) off topic, however I have to say I have to advise anyone riding in the West Coast cement I ride in (first ride yesterday after a long hiatus), is that the stock boards will build up WAYYYY too much snow and ice and I dont see small variations to the current stock boards making much difference to that fact (including the aftermarket guys).

Further, thickening the current board design will help the with dents and breaks forming on my boards but certainly will not prevent them. I am stomping and kicking the hell out of my boards and have destroyed a great pair of boots, and smashed the hell out of my boards... cest la vie.

My question is this; after seeing the Airframes by Skinz, why the HELL wouldn't one of the manufacturers (hopefully Polaris) work with Skinz and take on their design? Possibly they are afraid of people taking small children for rides and their feet slipping through the gaps (easily fixed with lateral supports) - as it had also crossed my mind. I simply just don’t know...but hell they would reinvent Polaris's "Raw" motif. That Skinz design is all and everything that we need on these sleds... regardless of where you ride.

They are on my hit-list for next season, and I highly recommend that if you are having major snow build up issues, you research them.

That being said, again, I do not own them (yet) and have not tried them...they just plain make sense just looking at the damn things. also have not tried Rob's Better Boards even though I have a pair ordered.

Ask Christopher (Editor/Moderator Snowest) his thoughts...and I assure you they seem unbiased.

LG"

I rode a pro yesterday with better boards on them they cleaned out good but the front still hold snow like the stock ones rob do you have a solution for that. Found myself kicking alot still to get the snow out of the front I think the hole in the front needs to be bigger.

???

Does any one know WHEN.. The NEW BB Design is coming out??

When can we expect them??

There on the Summer List!!

THERE ARE NEW BETTER BOARD DESIGNS COMING FOR THE PRO? WOW SINCE I DO ALL OF THE DESIGNS YOU WOULD THINK I WOULD ACTUALLY KNOW ABOUT SUCH THINGS.

Funny how I ride the PRO and have since day one with Better Boards version 2010-2011 and think they are absolutely AWESOME and perfect. So far I have not ridden a sled with any other product or version of board test or production that I think competes with them in all aspects of a quality, safety, and performance for such a successful product line. We have litterly several hundred of this version on the PRO with nothing but outstanding consumer use response. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 150,000 tested and ridden miles on this model alone. UNPRECEDENTED! Universally beloved on this sled by the actual owners and riders.

The real story is that we make custom boards all of the time and Struthers wanted another cleat up in the very front. I speculated it was somewhat dangerous but he was willing to take the risk personally and test a couple different types of cleats. He actually has a sled with two different versions on the same sled one left and one right. So far he has a few rides on them and that is it. NOT A COMPLETE QUALITY AND SAFETY APPROVED TEST PRODUCT FOR A COMPANY AS LARGE AND SUCCESSFUL AS SNOWMOBILE BETTER BOARDS! I certainly would not authorize a model update or change without actually testing the product extensively MYSELF. That is what you get with Better Boards on our production run models...the guy that designs them actually RIDES SLEDS, installs them, and tests them for quality and performance. ALL OF THEM!

aviatormd you are a complete idiot. I don't know what your agenda is but I cannot wait to see you again in person to discuss your issues with me. I am available to meet with you immediately!

I spent the day in Alpine Wyo riding a pro with pow coated better better boards on it... Deep sticky fresh snow... my running boards were clean all day... even on those good stucks... with huge amounts of pow covering the sled.... all I had to do was to give a couple of stops with my boot and the whole board was clean again.

I cant say that the stock boards stayed as clean when I jumped on the same sled without the boards on it.. both 2011 PRO RMK's...

Not to change the subject, but has anyone put the better boards on due to the stock running boards cracking from hard riding. I ordered a set because the running boards are cracked and broken in 4 spots on my pro. Thanks in advance.

After all the B.S. in the previous paragraghs, you still haven't said if we could have a bigger opening in the front of the board. I rode a pro with better boards this weekend and the snow plugs up in the front just as much as my stock ones and I would like something to fix the problem guess I'll have to get air frames.

i have owned snow eliminators, better boards, and now have a set of air-frames on the pro. i really liked the s.e. and BB. they worked very well and as advertised. but so far, with only a few hundred miles on them, i love the airframes. zero snow buildup. period. well, i take that back, the snow will still stick to the side of the tunnel. a full tunnel wrap is the plan for the summer. should solve that "problem". the only possible "issues" i could see developing with the airframes is the outstanding traction screw have the potential to tear up boots faster, although i'm not kicking or stomping nearly as much now. time will tell. and for the first time on saturday i had snow come up through the holes. but i was due to the snow conditions and it quickly fell back out. more testing is needed...:)

wow, rob, i have to assume you know Avi8tormd quite well and are good friends? i sure hope so.

Was the tunnel wrapped?
do you have plastic footwell block off plates?
After BB these two things helped the most with snow build up!

What???? Am I missing something, I saw nothing in his 2 previous posts that would cause this response....

Ya, I have to admit I've re-read the thread several times and I am completely lost.

I currently run Snow Elimininators on my '06 900 RMK and love them. After looking at countless photos of "Better Boards" on this site with the lack of snow build up vs the Snow Eliminators, I'd have to say that the copy BB's are no better than the original SE's. All that being said, so far my decision is leaning towards the Air Frames for my new Pro.

If you use airframes would you even need the block off plates??

b/c depending on snow conditions just doing a hard left turn will put snow on the clutches causing severe slippage. granted, not an every day issue but if it is going to happen it is pretty much going to be an epic day.
