I think Polaris did that last year to try and push the Boost and 9R sales. The colors and different seat and boards only on those. The stopper for me on a 9R is the P22 and it not being that much better than an 850 overall. For the cost difference anyways. I know riders will be like mine runs circles around my buddy's 850. I'm sure it does. The White/Green Mint whatever they call it was the color I liked last year. Not buying this year. Looking forward to see what is new with all 3 sled manufacturers.
My bolt backed off slightly every ride. Sled came with the 2024 updates minus the new bolt. I balanced, aligned, lapped, updated bolt and now it’s been 740 trouble free miles and zero bolt movement. I only got a 9R because I was 850 shopping (after getting rid of my Boost) and found a leftover for thousands less than what a Snowchecked 850 would cost.
I really enjoy riding a 9R, but it’s out of warranty and I have no idea about long term reliability, so I’m thinking of getting into an 850 that I can just ride for 4-5 seasons. I also find myself wanting to go back to a 155 from 165. I want the series 9 track, and nearly all of the unsold 2025’s in Alberta/BC have the 2.75 track. I’m thinking though that I can save some money by picking up a 2025 (or 2024) and swapping to the series 9 versus ordering a 2026.
…..or, maybe I’ll Snowcheck something this Wednesday in an NA 154……
FYI, I get the chance to ride a 2023 9R Khaos 165 back to back with a 2024 850 Pro 165 nearly every ride. It’s my opinion that the difference between the two has way more to do with feel/handling/ride experience, than it does performance results. Yes 9R definitely has more torque/HP, but both make similar track speeds. The way the 850 revs feels sluggish by comparison. Because the 9R response is so fast, it makes the handling feel very light and agile, which in turn gives a feeling of control and confidence. I believe this is THE primary advantage offered by 9R. I think as far as getting places, the 850 is more or less just as capable, it’s just a different riding style. For a rider at my age, skillset, and aggression level, I know I can do all the things I do on my 9R on an 850. It will just be WOT in some places where the 9R throttle would be modulated….
