Primary Weights for Cooke City MT Riding

Going to Cooke City Montana in a few weeks, first time there.

Anyone who has been there what do you suggest for primary weights? 10-60 or 10-58? Or? I have an Assault RMK with 2.4. Thanks.

Hey bud, I was out at Cooke last year. I have the rk tek drop in kit and was running 58s.. I wanted to be roughly 8400-8500 and it was perfect.. I'm also 210 with all gear on.. 60's would pry be right for cooke on stock set up. Have fun

58's will work well, you might see a bit of over rev on the trail. Nothing to worry about. With the 60's you will be 7800-8000 with a stock sled.

I ran stock last year smaller guy at 155 plus gear, stock 155" I ran 60s and was pulling 8150 after about 250 miles on the sled and non-eth setting.

very close to same weight as you and same riding

2013 pro 155 last year in cooke (new sled) just put the 10-60's in and it was perfect
(non-eth mode)

Bring both sets, you will want to maintain 8250 with a hot pipe in Cooke. Each sled has their own running characteristic. Better to be prepared. Bring along some spare lower A-Arms. You can always get parts at the Cooke City Exxon though. I would call to make sure lower A-Arms are available. 406-838-2244. The Assault RMK A-Arms are not readily available in our part of the world. It is still Dealer Snow.

We run 10-60's in the primary, and we use the SLP Helix/Spring Shim, and the Polaris black purple spring in the secondary. 800 Pro RMK 155"

This is interesting. With the drop in kit, it seems like you would need a little more weight than 58's. What do you think of the kit? Is it a true 15hp? We're riding 8000-10000' and running 60's in stockers. I'm running 63g with a par head. I was thinking about getting the drop in kit, but not sure now.

Stock I would probably run 60's. Bring what you have tho...only takes 5 minutes or so to change.

How is the snow?

I've been to cooke a lot with a stock Pro, start with 60's and go from there I think you'll be good with 60's but might be on the verge of needing 58's like I was. Depends on your sled none of them are gonna be the same. Make sure your clutch belt is good and broke in and belt deflection is right before you make a decision, because they both have a huge affect on clutch performance.

We rode 3 feet of Pow today it was epic and it's still snowing and is supposed to snow most of the day Wednesday to especting about another foot by Thursday best riding I've ever had but staying off open hills avy danger is pretty bad

58's are the way to go!! The stock sled can't pull the 60's in the high elevation at and deep snow at Cooke. I even shaved off a little on the 58's. Iceman makes a good point too.

I've been to Cooke many times with my 2012 Assault and now my 2015 RMK. 10-60s are perfect for a stock sled 8150 is what I hit. My buddy is running the same with his '15 155 RMK. We run 10-60s at Togwotee as well. It is also what Polaris recommends for that elevation.

I got back from Togwotee a week ago with my 15 RMK 800 LE (chaincase). I decided to be that guy and headed out there with 10-62s. I weigh 230 only thing changed under the hood is a super q can. I was pulling 8200-8250 down the trail and depending on elevation anywhere from 8000-8200 off the trail. Every time the throttle was pinned first # on the tach always started with an 8. I was impressed. Would I go out there again with 10-62s? Probably not. Next time it'll have 10-60s black purple sec spring and a delrin washer under the cup in the secondary.

That was peak, or what your gauge said max? Book says 8250 peak. I would try 58s. Under revving is the worst
