i fired up my 09 d8 yesterday to load it into the trailer and there was a squeeking noise coming from the primary. i rode it around the yard and the squeek turned into a rattling noise? the rattling never increased by how fast i was going but i am sure it was coming from the primary. any ideas? im affraid to ride it like this lol

ok the rattling was from the brass nut jam, it came in threaded but if we tread it back on there and tighten it, it still comes loose. so should i lock tight it? or is there a special tool to get it tightened all the way

Special tools are required, clutch will have to removed place on clutch holding fixture nut will need to be tighten with proper tool and a torch wrench. Purchase of this tools would must likely exceed your dealer service. They could also inspect clutch to see if it needs more than the jam nut tighten. Worn clutches can cause crankshaft damage.

take to or send to a shop

that clutch needs to be taken apart to fix (do not just tighten it up) it will not stay together.
pm me with more info

We just towed an '03 800 out the other day. The jam nut was rattling around, and the clutch and crank end wobbled up and down, plus in and out slightly. The guy thought he needed to ride it to get it to the trail. I had a good way to tow and suggested that if it were mine, I would not fire it back up. He is glad he got it fixed instead of riding it, the repair bill was cheaper this way.
