Primary Clutch broke in half! How am I gonna get this SOB off?

My buddy had the same thing happen to his 2003 Mountain Cat 900

I would check crank run out for sure.

I hate to scare you, but my buddy cut the clutch off like you did then the end of the crankshaft broke off with the clutch attached. Not sure if it was related, but sure seemed like an odd coincidence.

I'd say try to notch the remaining stub so you can grab it with a smaller pulley puller... can't see what else would work at this point.

That sucks man, lots of frustration.

Best way is to tap the end or weld a bolt on, then use Teflon tape on the bolt and fill hole with water. Tighten bolt in off she comes.

Got the sheave hub off the crank stub with a 6" 3 arm jaw puller from Harbor Freight and a 11mm 1/4" socket. Popped right off. Did a run out test and the crank is bent.... Fvck

your so close with the grind..continue to where just a whisker remaining and good blunt cold chisel should split it easy...

I wonder if that clutch spun a tad on stub..??

anyway you are almost there...keep at it and you will have it off intime for the football game

great...we posted at the same time so ignore my recent post..

what is the run-out.??

I didnt even measure the actual runout since it was so obviously bent with the dial indicator on it. Prob a good 1/16" or more. Im definitely demanding a new motor. Gonna look into lemon laws too since this is 2 primarys 1 secondary and now a bent crank all under 475 miles.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. It's sucks when people have these kind of problems with a brand new sled.

No this is the first belt Ive blown. But prob only blew since the clutch snapped

unfortunately, lemon law is about as useless as it gets in reality. To me, a lemon is a machine with a bunch of problems, non stop issues.

In the lemon law, a lemon is ONLY if you have the same problem 3x in a row.

So you need to slap another primary on that thing quick...

I'm sure they'll take care of you though (I mean dealer, not Cat)

I had my spider blow the fawk up on my 2010 M8 shrapnel everywhere
Looked like wolverine got ahold of my belt guard
Brand new motor under warranty
Crank was bent atleast a 1/4"
I was full tilt when this happened
Good luck my man!

The first clutch blowing is what took the crank, the dealer should have no problem getting everything covered. Unfortunate occurrence, not really the cranks fault it's these pieces of junk they call clutches. Still the best built crank on any two stoke out today.

Same thing happened to my 13 Polaris Pro RMK last year when I tried to pull the clutch. Took to dealer and they cut into the crank trying to get it off. Polaris said to put a new crank in under warranty. I opted for a 14 snow check at a price that did not leave me sour.

If your good with a cutting torch you should be able to cut the metal from the clutch off the taper of the crank without damaging the crank or crank seals. I have seen it done lots of times on tapered bearings. But I have seen some of them go bad also and nick the shaft.

I had to cut the clutch of an old 900 years ago. I did it just like you are, when I was done I had a small nick in the taper. Didn't worry about it, their is WAY more than enough fit to hold the clutch even with a small nick in the crank shaft.
