First primary lasted 300 miles and froze a roller. This one lasted not even 150 miles and snapped in half. Clutch puller has nothing to thread into so no clue how this is coming off...
dermal / grinder with a cutting wheel as close to the crank as possible without cutting into the crank and then a bit of a wack with a big cold chisel and the clutch should split wide open like a date on prom night..
support the stub on the underside abit
do a crank run-out test...!!..you may have an issue...
air grinder and a thin blade, get rid of the sheave first. That how I did it, it was on a old sled so I was a little braver.
A three jaw puller and a torch ?
Good luck.
F'ing Cat clutches
What we have done is get a new bolt, line up the cracks where it broke and run the bolt in to hold it all together where it's supposed to be. Weld the shaft back together and then use the puller as normal. This one looks a little tricky to do that on though. If a poo clutch breaks in half it's usually by the fixed sheave not the moveable.
When mine broke on my RMK, the dealer welded it back on. It was the only way to use the puller. He said he has done a number that way. Fortunately, mine was under warranty, so it covered my clutch.
I talked to my local dealer today They will have to do the same thing. And unfortunetly i have better tools for the job. They are busy and closed till tues and I have a trip thurs so im trying to give them a head start. New clutch got ordered today. Dont know if I have it in me to do the other side lol
Grab a big grinder and knock a piece of the shiv off so you can get in there with your air grinder! It should pop when you get close to cutting thru, I've done pressed on bearing on pinion gears like that
Had this happen last year on an M8, just tapped threads in the stub of fixed sheave, add a little water and a bolt with thread tape and put outside, let the cold do the work for you, no risk of damaging the crank with grinder.
What if you try starting it and let it run. May just fall off. Years ago we had to do that on a couple Exciters. The clutch wasn't broke in half like that but we just started them up, revved em up a little and the clutch dropped right off. Don't rev it real high. May be worth a shot.
I dont have a large enough tap for that hole to thread into. I cut the other side and got the outer sheave to split but still have the hub on the crank stub. Should probably be able to pop it off with a 4" puller. The crank stub is recessed into that clutch inner sheave stub. The pic makes it look like i cut into it lol
Next time weld a nut to the end of the stubb and fill with grease and a little water.. run a normal bolt with thread tape in and it would of poped right off. Its still an option, weld up buth sides and cool the end off so it doesn damage the seal or heat up the crank end too much and change the temper..
Cat sure has the award for the sh!tties clutches in 1 decade....
