Primary belt to sheave clearance question for the clutching gurus.

I was wondering if your belt to sheave clearance is too tight in the primary if you could just adjust belt deflection on the secondary instead of having to re-shim the spider? If this would work what are the negative effects of this? (reduced performance, clutch heat, etc.)

if it is too tight in the primary you need to adjust the primary! You cannot make up for it in the secondary.

If you just loosen the belt up in the secondary to make the belt-sheave clearance more then you are effectively starting in a higher gear ratio and you will lose some holeshot power.

On a side note, does the p-85 come with any shims stock? Or would I have to machine it down if my stock clutch is still to wide?

Thanks
