Good Explanation

The honest answer here is I relay don't know. The reason for this is we have never tested with HPS products so we don't know if the design will allow our pipe to work properly. I know he makes great stuff, but in the last few years it has become more critical to design a silencer as part of the entire exhaust system. I will explain:

It used to be, years ago, that you could change to almost any brand silencer with out much chance of compromising performance considering that flow and back pressure were less critical when compared with today's design requirements. Now we are required to invest much more time and technology into our silencers and expansion chambers because the flow rate, back pressure as well as a few other factors have to be nearly perfect or we can see a loss in performance. I would say one of the biggest game changers here was the introduction of the modern EFI systems found on late model machines. A perfect example of this is how long it took us to deliver a properly designed performance exhaust system for the Pro 800. With advanced technology comes more time as well as capital investment.

Considering these factors, and the fact that the HPS can is a straight through stinger design and ours is a chambered baffled design, it is highly unlikely that any other silencer will be compatible with our pipe.

Sorry for the long explanation,

Dustin

I thought this was a great and fair explanation so I thought I would chime in here. I met and rode with Dustin a few weekends ago. He is a great guy. Very smart, honest and obviously an expert in what he does.
Again, I thought this was a great explanation and nice of him to take the time to tell us the why's instead of just a short answer. I appreciate the details.
Been thinking about this pipe for a long time and based on the gains I think this pipe rips. SLP has always made great stuff and not having to do internal engine mod is awesome especially considering the 4 year warranties that some of us have.
Would love to have one of these!!!
Thanks Dustin for the information.

Its probably a little early to ask but when will you know if the 2011 performance kit will be the same for the 2012? I just like buying things in advance , buy a little at a time instead of paying out a couple a grand at once.

2012 800 switchback snowchecked!!!!

im in the same boat as you, from my understanding the 2012's will have slightly different mapping, so slp will need to get out on the 2012's and match the power commander map to the 2012 map.
other than the mapping all the parts will fit the 2012

Thanks for the compliments. That was a great ride that day with great guys and snow. Those are the ones that stick out in my mind years later. I don't know if you herd, but we were able to go back the next day and get Harper's M-1000 out. We had to install a new stator and it fired on the 2nd pull. Much cheaper then the helicopter.

It's looking like the parts should cross over from the 2011 to the 2012. The thing we don't know at this time is if and how much the mapping will change. We may not know until our snowcheck comes in this fall. I suppose it is possible that we could get this information sooner but only if Polaris throws us a bone.

Good luck with the bone!

It was an awesome day and ya, a great group of guys. It's great meeting people in the industry and putting a name, face and "mind" to a product and the companies that sell them.
Ya, J mentioned that you fixed it almost as fast as you had it diagnosed. I bet Harper was relieved to get that thing out of there and back to his garage. It would have been a cool/memorable($$$) heli ride though. Still really impressed that you knew so much about every sled and setup we had on the hill that day regardless of who's setup it was. "Now, who are you again", lol!!
Was out with a dealer today and rode a 155 Pro with the SLP Stage3 kit. That thing freaking hauls. It was crushing the stock sleds off the line and down the course. Very fun to watch and even better to ride!

So the chassic have not changed , so I can go and pick up a SLP exhaust for a 2011 and it will fit the 2012 I ordered , or should I wait.?!

Problem is we can not guaranty anything until we actually have a production chassis here and have physically bolted one in. But we have been told that the chassis is identical to the 2011 so my guess is it is safe to buy it now.

Dustin,

Just out if curiosity why no y pipe for the pro setup?
Unlike the previous 08-10 cfi pipes from slp

how much weight is this setup pulling at 6-10000'
I realize that this is open ended but just curious.

Our recommendation splits that into two elevation categories: 6-8000 foot and 8-10,000 foot. I ride about 7-9500 so I kind of split the difference. Works perfect that way even though the sled over rev's on the trail until I get up high but then it pulls 8250 perfectly where I spend most of my time.

For 6-8000 foot we recommend 68 MTX weights with a 1g rivet in the outer hole and a 2g rivet in the outer hole. This is probably equivalent to around a 10-62 Polaris weight. For 8-10,000 foot we recommend the 68 MTX weights but with a 1g rivets in the inner hole which would probably be equivalent to about a 10-60 Polaris weights.

Thanks Dustin

I have had SLP products on almost, no on every sled I have own since 95 except my new 2011 pro and the service the entire time has been top notch. I have to say the response and time you have taken to share with the reader of snowest here on this post is very reflective of the service I have always received.

Thanks again to a great company SLP.
