President Trump's speech to Congress

I thought the speech was the best I've seen in decades. Presentation was good, other than maybe a little bit of finger pointing by President Trump. Personally tired of the liberals protesting and being just downright childish behavior with sitting while others stood and applauded. What I would ask some of the non Trump supporters is, can you tell me the in the last many years of Democratic Liberal Reign when a speech was given by our President how many times Conservatives showed such a flagrant lack of disrespect during the speech such as booing or sitting while others stood. I really think Trump got it right in his primary idea of "America First". My hope is that he can unite us all, and at a minimum prove the Democratic Liberals there is a better way.

Transparent, that's a really good one, how do you come up with all these? if there is one thing trump is not its transparent. If there was nothing to hide in his tax returns or the Russia issue or anything else a smart person would put it all on the table and shut everyone up for good. That doesn't seem like an option. It's like a kid accused of stealing candy-the one who opens his pockets obviously didn't take any, the kid who refuses to...

A very smart guy once said "do not make enemies with people who purchase ink by the barrel." I'd call that very sound advice in the world of politics. Says a lot about Donny that that was the first thing he did and continues to do daily.

Interesting Perspective. However, as a rule I believe the majority of the American People have had it with the Media. The Media has had a free reign for way to long. I really applaud President Trumps "Calling it Like it is" strategies. With many of the huge problems this country has to deal with, its probably time for that. Lets remember one thing, President Trump is not a career politician. Nor do I believe thats his long term goal. We elected a President who in his prior life knew how to get things done. I truly believe thats why he got elected and to date has gotten more done in a few months, than some presidents have done in multiple terms.

Could not have said it better!

MSM

downright childish behavior with sitting while others stood and applauded.

Golf-Pine.... I hear ya... With that story I found myself wanting to believe it as well... to justify my beliefs.

BUT...

That story of people refusing to stand was just more media Hype.... It's coming from some of the minority of the media.... extremist political Contard and Libtard MSM alike.

But generally, by the few outlets that are really just political media extremists, to KEEP things divided.

Reports falsely accuse Democrats of refusing to stand for Gold Star widow
Politifact: CLICKABLE LINK

He talked about "Time for small thinking is behind us" in the speech.. then hits is favorite addiction... Twitter.... To talk about TV shows and paranoid delusions about wire taps.

Right there, cancelled out any good from that speech for me.

Right now, he's on the golf course again in Florida (I think this is the 6th time in the last couple months) ... the very thing he complained about with his predecessor.

Blaming the generals though...hmm.

So you actually think a free press is a bad thing? That's the freakin cornerstone of American democracy. Would you rather have state run news like they have in CHINA??? You want to get the truth from the media read the right, left and middle and look for the common threads. Or would you prefer state run Breitbart news as your only source, cause that's what Donny wants...

I keep hearing about his YUGE accomplishments but other than a whole lot of executive orders (something the right crucified Obama for), there don't actually seem to be any real accomplishments. Please enlighten me. Personally I don't count allowing a coal mining company to dump their filth in the drinking water of the town that their workers live in so that they can make another 0.000001% profit as much of an accomplishment.

Calling it like it is, that's good, more baseless twitter accusations at 4am. Awesome. If he was actually worth anything as a leader he would know that accusations without backup are not worth a sh!t. I'd love to see some backup, but we all know he has nothing, or it would be on the table by now.

This is gonna get a lot worse before it gets better, he has dug a hole that I don't think he can get out of.

So, are you saying once it becomes clear that Trump Tower had indeed been tapped your opinion will change?

Still waiting for a reply here.

Mountain,

Agreed on some points. I do believe both sides, including President Trump are guilty of bashing and false truths. However, I also think the Democrat Party is going to extreme lengths to promote there cause.
I continue to ask myself.... Does President Trump have the best interests of the United States in mind, as well as the common good?(common good may mean different things to different people). After several months, I continue to think the answer to that question is Yes, in my humble opinion anyway.

As stated before, President Trump not being a career politician, nor being the Republican Parties "First" choice as a presidential candidate gives me renewed faith in the system. Lets remember that the Republicans were'nt exactly embracing President Trumps entry to the race initially.

Lastly, I'm more than certain that he will make many a decision or policy change I don't agree with. In the end I'm confident that these changes will leave us with a better United States in the end.

So, are you saying once it becomes clear that Trump Tower had indeed been tapped your opinion will change?

I'm sure the massive evidence is stashed with obamas Kenyan birth certificate, proof of 3m illegal votes (convenient number considering the popular vote gap), the proof of inauguration crowd size etc. This was a knee jerk reaction to sessions caving in based on a breitbart report. Seriously? If there was massive evidence where the he!! Is it and why do they even need an inquiry? I'm not too concerned about changing my opinion.

You ever read the boy who cried wolf? I wouldn't accuse any previous politician of being a saint but this guy has taken lies and deception up by several orders of magnitude. draining the swamp and getting away from exactly this kind of BS is what he was elected on. If there's evidence for any of his claims he would show it right away. This guy thrives on the swamp being deep, and he is making it deeper. If he really wants it drained stop quoting bannon and tweeting BS at 4 am and SHOW SOME PROOF for something.

IMO... the way that should be stated is:

If any information is presented, publicly.. or secretly (to a bipartisan security committee) That there exists, at a minimum, some proof of "reasonable suspicion" that a wiretap, instigated by Obabma exists.... then, and only then, should the multi-millions of taxpayer dollars be invested into looking into this... If some proof to this claim is offered up, then, and ONLY then should an investigation begin.

If that reasonable suspicion is proven to exist, then I am all for an investigation to happen.

Since Trump has already made this extremely serious claim to the broader public though his favorite social media vehicle, I believe that he should offer up the proof in that same fashion unless it will undermine national security.

And... with this wild tweet of wiretapping allegations, he may have already breached national security protocols if true. If not true, then the statement is slanderous and will have to claim that the statement is from the office of POTUS in order to get protection like Nixon did. This situation is certainly 'sticky' at best for DJT. This tweet statement has a strong possibility of opening up a lot of insight into the world of DJT, good or bad.

To make this kind of claim, with nothing to back it up, released by DJT to the public or to the intelligence community, to stand behind his claim... then he is acting in a most irresponsible way and creating doubts about the office of POTUS IMO.

If DJT cannot offer up in any way, or show proof as base for his claim that Obama ordered wiretaps of his private residence... then, unfortunately, he should be held responsible for slander. If President Trump cannot substantiate his claims, and quickly, he's in for a very bumpy ride.

With DJT screaming about leaks on Twitter, and in open and closed press conferences.... How did Breitbart get their "leak" that preceded DJT's early morning tweet-fest that included these serious allegations?

The bad thing that has happened here, since Trump has taken office, is the corrosion of confidence that I and many American citizens have in the office of POTUS.

For me, with all the fact checking that is happening... the worst "fake news" has been DJT's Twitter feed over the last few years... ARGH !!

It used to be that if the POTUS made a grave statement like that, he did it with confidence and information to support it... but in light of his many other public twitter-spews that have been based on flat out false claims... I am, at best, dubious of anything that DJT tweets.

His trivial twitter-attacks about TV shows, clothing lines, parents of war heros, movie stars etc are just that,,, TRIVIAL and Childish... in my eyes.

I hope that President Trump... for the sake of these Great United States of America.... will put down his cell-phone and golf clubs for while... stay in the REAL White House, take care of the HUGELY important task of business at hand during the tornado of activity that demands presidential attention.... and do what HE claimed he wanted to do in his SPEECH to the Joint Session {which BTW is the topic of this thread}

With his Tweet, the POTUS has "opened a can of worms" that he may not yet understand the significance of.

Here is a good breakdown of this topic from the Conservative Benjamin Wittes:

I predict enough evidence will surface that we all will believe Obama, holder, comey, lynch, Jarrett were involved.

Probably not enough evidence to prosecute.

Some evidence... any evidence.... not theories.... would be good and welcome with this one Bill.

Because, with this latest DJT tweet storm that merged Schwarzenegger TV shows and wiretapping allegations,...and DJT running away to his weekend resort to greet people at a Eye-Clinic charity ball at Mar a Lago and went golfing... again...

...I'm seriously beginning to wonder about President Trump's mental stability and presidential abilities.

This claim only deepens the need for investigation of any wrong doing by the Trump team, or Trump himself, in collusion activity with the Russians.

Even Republican Tom Cotton, Member of Senate Intelligence Committee, and avid supporter of the Trump camp.

From the Conservative outlet "The Hill"
FBI asked Justice Department to reject Trump claim: report

Trey Gowdy: No evidence that Obama wiretapped Trump

With all of this going on... and in light of Trumps history of hardline criticism of his predecessors Golfing habits... HMMM.

best presidential speech I have ever heard and I cant believe we have that many blind dumb ****s living in the US

I have no problem with the critique of President Trump.
What frustrates the hell out of me Is the unwillingness to acknowledge anything positive, and so many people actually wanting President Trump to fail.
That's sad.

Bill,

A sincere question: Can you lay out the top 5 things that you feel that President Trump has done, so far, that fit into the "positive" category?

AND I agree... wanting our President to fail is counterproductive to the very fabric that our country is made from...

But I also don't conflate being critical of programs or positions (or tweets) that DJT is responsible for with 'wanting him to fail'... if it has merit... support... if it does not... do not support...simple IMO.

As someone who is willing to get into the debate, sometimes with family, it drives me crazy when Trump says or tweets s#it that really is beneath his office. Sometimes hard to stick up for him in that respect.
Knowing that he is the best person for the job regarding our economic strength allows me to ignore the childish tweets.

I frequently say..."He's not gonna be as good as I believe, and he won't be as bad as you believe" and there's probably a lot of truth to that.

In terms of "Economic Strength"... At this point, 45 Days into his presidency, it is yet unclear whether President Trump will lead us into a Depression.... or into Prosperity.

I hope it is the later of the two, and encourage anyone who cares about their country to keep an eye open in the days to come.

There are strong arguments put forward for both sides of that coin.

The old adage of "Trust in god, but tie up your horse at night" comes to mind.

I do believe that the childish tweets, though, are indicative of underlying personality traits that could limit DJT's abilities to lead our country effectively. At this point, to me.... he seems to be playing games with the office of POTUS... and would like him to act more presidential,... and put small things behind him as he pointed out in the speech.
