Premix?

O.k guys, my motor seized up today on a climb, but after cooling down, and puttng a little oil in the plug holes, then syphoning out some oil from the oil tank, and mixing accordingly in the fuel tank, I got her going again, and managed to ride her out. Now, anybody running premix? I'm interested in the conversion. I haven't had a chance to diagnose what failed, but I will check the oil lines and have a look at the oil pump over the next couple of days. It surely wasn't getting any oil!! I can see that the pump arm has movement back and forward when the throttle is activated so it looks like it's working. The plugs looked pretty white. Weird, because I always keep my finger on the pulse, with plug reading, measuring oil usage/fuel usage and everything has been spot on. Now I'm wondering what I should do with the motor. A fresh tm3 this year and a new top end. All with only about 60 hours on the clock. Is it going to need another top end. What about the crank bearings? Anybody want this machine for 10 grand???:yell:

indy dan recommends adding 16oz of oil to every tank of fuel in these sleds, this motor loves oil, both of mine get run that way, if you already have his motor i would call and get his opinion on what to do.

Good Luck

I would like to convert mine to pre-mix also. Ive herd the inner crank bearings dont get oil when doing this. On the 800's Twisted turbos runs premix and says the boost pushes the oil into these bearings. Anyone know how to make these motors work well with pre mix? either NA of boosted.

Premix is a tough one... you have to run greased/sealed bearings (like poo)... I've been talking to Indy Dan on this one for a while... no easy way to do it...

Turbos seem to be able to run this, but not NA sleds.

Are you sure it is an oil problem and not some kind of a lean-sieze??

This is what i was thinking to, Your gonna have to pull it apart and check it out before you start assuming things. Ill bet you just need a new piston or two, Cylenders are probably fine. Then again you did rid it out, That wouldnt help anything out. You do what you gotta do though.:face-icon-small-hap

Full pre-mix = efi fuel filter problems? not a statement, a question.

We run a bit of extra oil in the tank with our CFI turbos-never fully converted one to pre-mix though...

The inner crank bearings/waterpump drive gear are not the problem... you can put a small cup reservoir on there to lube them.

It is the outer bearings (pto and mag) that are the concern... In the 600 IQR's...Polaris switched out to a greased sealed bearing to deal with the problem.

BUT, then again, the Racers are designed to be serviced/torn-down a LOT more than a consumer engine.

IMO, if you want reliablily and ease of use, then go with oil/pump auto mix setup. Huge amonts of hours of trouble free use with this system in the toughest test of all.... consumers. If you have something that is broken or out of adjustment... find it and fix it and you will be happy.

Curt,

The fuel filters seem to be ok with the premix.... I'd change it more often just to be safe.

I do the same thing. Extra oil going through the lower case doesn't hurt. But man, premix doesn't sound like fun.

Well I spoke to Indy Dan, and he seems to think it could be an oil pump issue, or possibly a lean condition, due to a plugged injector. I know that the mag side has been running a bit hot in the past, and after I added oil to the fuel, after seizing it up, the pto plug was fouled, but not the mag side. Weird. The mag side looked lean for sure. So I guess the first thing to do is pull the injectors, and get them flow tested. Nothing but constant headaches with this sled all season. All isolated things though. Which makes it more frustrating!!

Let us know what you find out. I burnt mine down a month or so ago(my fault) lean. The mag went on mine too. Other piston was fine

i would get your injectors flow tested..check this link out...very cheap and they give you a full flow test..

i would add some oil to your fuel like skisucca said after you fix your issue and go from there..
