prem only light coming on

I have an 03 RMK 700. Lately the "prem only" light has been flickering on at certain rpms, 5500 for example. This is happening in regular mode with regular gas. Does this mean anything, or do I have a wiring issue I should be looking for?

Thanks.

it does same thing to my buddy's dad's sled, he is not worry about it, as long he use the premium fuel, no problem.

Light

I would be looking for a short. That light has power running to it from the gauge harness. When you turn the key to Prem, it grounds the circuit and the light comes on. You may have a wire rubbing and at certain RPM it vibrates against a ground. I would chase it down because it may get bad enough to fry your voltage Reg. Look down by the pipe where the hood harness plugs into the chassis. I think the white/orange wire is the one for the light. It should be seperate from the big 8 pin connector.

Prem Wire

It's the white/orange but I don't remember it not being part of the regular plug in harnesses at the hood hinge area on the left hand side.

The wire goes from the switch to the tach. The pink/blk wire goes from the switch to the CDI.

You could always just unplug the white/orange wire at the switch and solve the problem simply if you don't want to engage the other timing curve.

Thanks for the replies. I have unplugged the wire for now, but will post when I find the issue. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't used as a "DET" light or something.
