Prefilter for intake

I've noticed that the prefilter material will allow fine snow to pass through it when in deep fluffy powder. Wouldn't this be harmful to the rotating fins in the turbo that are spinning so fast? However, most kits I've looked at use the same material over the intake, so maybe I'm just worrying about something that is not an issue.

I know the actual snow prefilters are silicone impregnated so snow/moisture will not pass through. The only ones I'm 100% sure that are silicone impregnated is the K&N Snowcharger prefilters.

Took my filter that came off my mcx kit and sprayed it with water and it did not repel a thing. I think they are just designed to keep the snow out.
