I recently added a programmer, and am unsure of what temp to set my alerts on my pyro. The sensor is mounted on the down pipe about 2 inches from the turbo.

anything over 1200-1250 things are going the melt
that is too hot for post turbo...i would set it for 1000 at the highest.
For the most part, the turbo can handle the higher temps, its your pistons that start melting if you hold it past 1250* for any length of time. I've hit 1500*F on my truck but it was for all of a half a second. Just remember to let it idle and cool down to around 350*F before you shut it off, unless you like buying turbos.
aluminum melts @ 1400. 1250 is no problem with a pre-turbo reading.ill hit 1600 on a hard launch but its only there for maybe 10 seconds then the primary turbo lights. and like luke said, let the turbo cool down before shutting the truck off...turbo timers are priceless imo. matt
i have my egt in the same place, which is where superchip and autometer say to put them, all the cats , cummins etc have them there also. i have a 99 stroke with a superchip programmer ,and run 900 all the time and have pulled 1100 a couple times but the wastegate opens and it wont go any higher but i cant lug it i have an auto tranny
ive seen a twin turbo set up that was glowing bright red and the pyro was at 1600 my jaw hit the floor. the highest ive ever seen a pyro was about 1275 and the turbo friction welded its self together
