What has everybody's power rates gone to? Here in Southeastern Idaho,(Rocky Mountain Power) mine went crazy from last month and my consumption did not vary that much, WTF ??

How much / kw?

We pay just under 9 cents / kw for general use
4.5 cent / kw for heat

If I'm reading this right believe it is around 9.36 cents kwh- peak and 3.42 cents kwh - off peak. How ever that adds ups ???????

My power bill went through the roof recently so I called my energy company and they sent a guy out to do an "energy audit". He discovered that one of the elements on my hot water heater wasn't working and that the other element was staying on 24/7.

The heater was still under warranty so I had it replaced and my bill went back down to normal.

Perhaps you've got something drawing power that shouldn't be. The guy who did the audit said that he finds a lot of baseboard heaters get stuck on and that they can draw a lot of juice.

Just throwing ideas out there for you...good luck!

i got a dam roommate who doesn't know that light switches also work to turn lights off, and that the heater can be turned back down to below 90*F when he leaves for work (3 hours after I leave) in the morning. Last months power bill = $115...month before was under $55. driving me nuts.

Lucky guys, I'm paying something like $.62/kwh which includes a fuel surcharge.

Thanks for the tip Camden, I'm on what they call "time of day" and my bill went up over $125.00 from last month, that's what got me concerned:face-icon-small-dis

I believe that we are currently at 7.1 - 7.7 cents per kilowatt here in MN depending on the time of year, at least through Xcel Energy.
