Thought I would post up some picks of my 13.1:1 head from Brad. This thing is a work of art, if it performs half as good as it looks I will be happy. I will be installing it this weekend. I will post how it runs after the snow flies, but from what I have read I do not think I will be dissapointed.

How do you index a plug for a 2 stroke I know on a 4 stroke we position it towards the intake valve. On a 2 stroke the gas is pushed up on both sides of the cylinder.Do you index it so the bend of the tang is facing exhaust?
I will but my head on tomorrow if all goes well.Did my gauge lifter today still waiting on my track and snow.

You guys suck! Your gonna make me get one, just so I can keep up with you. Ran out of Mod money though. All of my extra dough is going into the shop I'm building right now.

I installed my 13.6 head a couple days ago and was very impressed with every aspect of the product and install. I was really suprised at how different the exhaust sounded when I got done(before the HPS can went on). Sounds naughty. Can't wait to ride it.

I will post the compression I gain after the install. Since no two guages are the same I will check it before tear down and then right after I reassemble with the same guage. I will be about 700 ft above sea level where I will be installing it. I am reading I should gain about 20 LBS. We are installing on two sleds the same day, so I will post both results before and after.

Indexing

I bought my PA head through another well known engine builder, and he told me to rob the crush washers off of another set of plugs and run two sets on each plug with this head. Anyone else getting that recommendation too? Ive worked with them before and they do a he$$ of a job and have complete faith in his recommendations.

Havn't heard that yet.. your the first...

But if you get a chance.. before you install the head.. Torque plug down..

see the depth of the spark plug.. It PERFECTLY Flush..

wondering why you would want the plug sucked in threads more..

hmm.. To try it .. you sure couldn't wreck anything but extra gas!:face-icon-small-dis

So, I checked my compression before teardown. The sled has been sitting since march and has not been ran, the compression was 125 on both cylinders at 700 ft above sea level. My riding partner was insalling his the same time today, his sled had been ran this fall it read 135 in both cylinders with the same guage. After the install mine read 140 both cylinders my buddies read 150 both cylinders. So we both picked up 15 psi with the 13.1:1 head, I could not figure out why so much difference in compresssion between the two. After running both and letting them get to full operating temps and checking for leaks we rechecked and both sleds were 145. The only thing I can figure was my cylinders were dry and his had gas and oil film from beeing ran recently so he was getting a better seal with the rings.

better than what i've been hearing, heard 110-115...if the head jumped it up 15psi that is pretty good

hmm

How are you guys checking the "squish" when installing this new head, what is the recommendation??

PISTON TO HEAD CLEARANCE

How are you guys checking the "squish" when installing this new head, what is the recommendation??

I use (2) strands of soft solder twisted together

bend to an "L" shape with the short end approx 1 1/2" long

Insert into the spark plug hole

IN-LINE with the wrist pin (to minimize piston rock and an in-accurate measurement)

Rotate engine over by hand

Remove and mic the solder

.050"-055" is what I consider safe, I.M.O.

yes

I totally agree. I like to check all the way around the piston, just to see what's really going on in there. You are correct though, in line with the wrist pin is most accurate.

Now what if there is an odd spot, do you overtorque, retorque. loosen and retorque,,, which should be done anyway..

It seems some guys overlook the squish, and it can be very informative if done correctly.

I am pretty anal about stuff fitting perfectly and will check and redo things until it all works out just right...

Oh, and I have been known to overtorque a bolt or two to get things juuuust right...

800 PA Head

Ordered Brad's 13.6 to 1 head for 09 800. Does Brad recommend new o-rings? What torque should be used on the head bolts? Does his kit come with detailed instructions?

It comes with an instruction sheet, 25 ft lbs on the head bolts. All the info is on the sheet. Some is not nessesarely in the order it needs to be done, but the job is very straight forward. What really helps is a way to siphon the antifreeze out of the coolant bottle, its alot less messy. I used a siphon tube with the little globe pumper ball that you squeeze to get it flowing and it worked well. Make sure the front of the sled is just slightly higher than the back to get the fluid level below the head if you are siphoning. If you pull the hose off the front of the engine or bottom of the coolant bottle it will drain fine but is messy and you will have to buy new antifreeze.

Brad does not recommend new o-rings unless they are damaged but I put new ones in for piece of mind. I just put the two round head o-rings though. I did not replace the outer ones as they dont see the heat and compression the two round ones do. All of that is totally up to you.:face-icon-small-win
