powdercoat m7 stock exhaust?

What are pro's or cons to powdercoating the exhaust system.I know it will keep from rusting,someone said may add a few ponies,any thoughts or experiences with this...:beer;

According to the powder coater that I use the con is the powder coat will melt off when you run the sled. He said that he bakes it at just over 400 degrees so when you exceed that temp it will run off. I was told it will start getting soft at about 325 degrees.

You would probably want to use a high temp coating usch as a ceramic base, its more for looks than anything, and it can show some rust if it is not taken care of properly. You can use any aluminum polish to protect it, and also WD-40 works very well. The polished look is very popular, but they also make other colors.

This is one of many suppliers for High-Temp Coatings:

If you are looking for a place I prefer www.lo-ko.com

X2 powder coating is ony good for non heated parts. I tried it already and it makes a fu@$%kin mess that the degreaser doesnt like. Might as well melt some plastic and pour it to yer motor............

Powder coat won't work on an exhaust but ceramic coating will work very well.

Try Gary Plsek, Alpine Powdercoating in Grand Junction, CO. at
(970)245-0893

He has done numerous dirtbike and sled exhausts with ceramic coating.

Been there done that with Powder Coat, and let me tell you the wife was less than impressed, (her sled btw), and it was only the outer heat shields I did. Smoked like a mother for 6-7 rides and then just blistered and crumbled off. Not good!!! Even the high temp powders aren't enough for exhaust systems.

Performance Coatings is who I use for all my larger pieces. I used to have Jet Hot do them until they pissed me off on a specific pipe I couldn't replace. Just make sure that when your parts come back you get all the tiny polishing balls out. I tried the hi temp powder coating years ago and got the same results as others have posted. Yes there is a differance between standard and hi temp powder coat, but it will not take the heat.

Not sure where you are locate dbut these guys to awesome work at a reasonable price.
