Powder Mountain Crevasse!!

Global TV just reported a 32 year old nearly went into a 100' crevasse on Powder Mountain. Sounds like he was able to bail before his sled went in the crevasse. They said he suffered injuries but did not say much about the extent of his injuries. Be careful out there everyone.

My buddy was with him and said it was bad, more like a 40' crevasse. He had to be air lifted out and taken to royal jubilee. sounded like a real night mare.

40' is a long way down. From what they said on the news hour, it sounded like he did not go in the crevasse but rather came off the sled. What exactly happened and I sure hope he is doing OK.

As far as I know it is still in the crevasse. Apparently the heli was going to retrieve it the following day. I haven't talked to him since the other day I will contact him tonight and get more info.

They got his sled out but it was a complete write off! He saw the crevasse at the last second then pin it to try and jump over it, He was about 2ft short then jumped off his sled and held on to the other side and his sled fell 40'. He sustained broken ribs and leg and is doing fine now.

I fell into a 70 foot ice crevasse up in that area back in 1999 and landed in water at the bottom. I was pretty close to death but not from the fall....I had hypothermia waiting for my riding partner to go get help as we did not have radios or cell phones. I am very lucky to be alive! Walked away with two broken ribs after being down there for 2 hours treading water and trying to climb out by myself in the pitch black.
