powder coating

I am powder coating my a arms black cause i have the red ones on the 2012 assault i am wondering if i should do the spindles as well since they will be off. Will i have to grind some of the fresh powder coat off to fit the lower a arm in again.

Might as well while you're at it... Not to difficult if you're doin the same color. I sent my rails and spindles out last Thursday to get coated black for my '12 Assault... :face-icon-small-coo

How did your rails turn out? I am gonna do mine, but I got to thinking that I should have them anodized instead. 1) Because the hyfax will slide on easier & 2) I am worried about the PC cracking when I tighten up the suspension bolts. Any thoughts? Has anyone powder coated their rails succesfully?

As far as coating the spindles, just have the brass bushings taped over before coating. That's what we are doing to mine.

I'm not sure how they turned out yet, when I get it all back I'll let you know. Buddies of mine have had their rails coated and not had any problems, they also have held up well so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I had my spindles, a arms, rear scissors, rails, bumper mount, pretty much everything powdered satin black, looks good, i haven't noticed any cracking on the rails when putting my skid back together, the hifax slide on with no problem. Make sure your powder guy bakes the rails at a low temp.

Make sure you drive out the plastic bushings out of the spindles first, unless it is a 2012, then they are brass.

To each their own, but no powder coating on any of my sleds.

Powdercoating doesn't last and it is detrimental to the heat treated aluminum alloys used in constructing a modern sled, regardless of the claims of low temp powders and all, I wouldn't do it.

Anodizing is much better from a strength and durability standpoint, as well as no weight gain. Hydrophobic Hard Anodizing is the best for shedding water and ice as well as snow.

I have powder coated 6 pros and haven't had an issue yet.

What works for some may not work for others.

I powdercoated my rails and spindles last year. They were done in black and baked at low temp and I haven't had any issues with the powdercoat cracking or flaking. Hyfax slid right on with no issues. The difference in snow shed was huge.

Normal temp is 400 F.

What is low temp?

I need to powder coat the rail on a WRP WIDE Board kit so my oven is out the question ... too small.

Anodized is lighter and possible better for weight purposes ... but my whole sled is powder coated

Have you found anyone up here who does anodizing?

how much does that usually cost?

My skid came from Ice age already anodized. They said they would not sell them powder coated because it weakens the rails (which they make for Polaris too). I'm getting the girls sled powder coated regardless because I've seen many powder coated sleds go through a lot worse than she'll ever put it through without damage. As far as myself goes, I like the look of the anodizing better, it's lighter, and sheds snow just as good.

I thought I should follow up with ya... Got my stuff back and finally got it back together. Turned out real nice. No cracking or chipping when tightening bolts and they did a great job taping off the threaded holes and clearance holes. Had to grind the coating off w/ a dremel for the lower a-arm but it wasn't a problem. Very happy with how they turned out.
